Wake up! Addiction to food or eating is like any other addiction or illness. A lot of people cannot help it and they need different sorts of treatments, either physical, mental or emotional.

If you are severely overweight and you are so by choice, fine. But if you are not over weight by choice, I would consider it either a physical/mental/emotional disorder that needs treatment just like any illness.

I agree, I'm fat I'm not sick. It's not a disease, I just keep on eating pizza and hostess, because they taste good. And no calling me a fatso wont make me mad, if you wanna make me mad, "tell me that Kentucky Fried Chicken is going out of business" That'll make me mad....

I agree people want to call everything a disease so they can make some magic pill for it that will fatten the pockets of drug companies and doctors. If you can't keep a cheeseburger out of your mouth your not sick you need self control.

I agree that obesity is not a disease, but I think it is a problem with society that needs something to happen to fix it. If nothing else, obesity does involve some serious health risks

has anyone ever noticed that the fat epidemic coincides with the government interference of enforcing a low fat diet? that was a total made up crap idea by some people who had absolutely no scientific background. have you read any of the literature on how fat is NOT the bad guy the government wants us to believe. its not a conspiracy, its just WRONG information that is keeping america fat.

It sounds like you are "offended" by the word "disease"! It must be hell to be so easily offended by the simple words of others! This is unbelievable!

You can pull together any petition you want, but you're wasting your time,.. so much effort for such a simple little "politically incorrect mis-nomer".

It is a sickness in some people. The Morbidly Obese (A medical Term not me being a dinkus)

In some a mental disorder, they cannot help but to eat. In some a gene that is increasing in frequency. In others, people have eaten so much crap that it has literally become diabetes. I think he is speaking figuratively and the "cure" he is looking for is actually a wide variety of steps to reduce the amount of crap available. I understand what you are trying to say, but it is really a problem.

And Disease is defined as

1. a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness; sickness; ailment.
2. any harmful, depraved, or morbid condition, as of the mind or society: His fascination with executions is a disease.

So some could argue this point.
If you can call alcohol addiction a disease you can call food addiction, and the addiction to processed food a disease.

Obesity itself is not a disease, but it can be a symptom of other problems. For example, I forget the term, but some people suffer from a condition where they do not realize they're full. The brain doesn't make that connection. So they keep eating, and eating, and eating...picture the results of a person who is always eating and never full. Yuck.

Lumping all obese people into one category is just plain stupid, and is an ineffective way to offer support and treatment.

I too am a little on the heavy side but there are some people who do have a disease par say. over eating to the point of gluttony is one of them and then there is the hypo thyroid which is an under active thyroid gland. This makes a person fat. My mother was over 200 pounds all her life until one doctor found the problem an upped her thyroid pills and she lost over 60 pounds in two months.

I'm sorry but you are a little wrong but not everything. You have the right idea you just don't know all of the ins and outs.
