With America having the the highest unemployment rate in more than 25 years amnesty a hard sell now?

April 24 (Bloomberg) -- The long campaign to overhaul U.S. immigration laws may be derailed for yet another year -- this time by the deteriorating economy.

Lawmakers, lobbyists and advocates on both sides of the issue said the highest unemployment rate in more than 25 years would make it difficult for President Barack Obama to push legislation that would legalize millions of immigrants in the country illegally and create a new guest-worker program.

“The debate has changed,” said Senator Jeff Sessions, an Alabama Republican who opposed immigration legislation when it was last considered in 2007. “I don’t think it’s going to be a pleasant discussion because the American people won’t be happy about it.”

This month, White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs said Obama would soon introduce new plans for overhauling immigration, a legislative priority for companies such as chipmaker Intel Corp., hotel-chain Marriott International Inc. and Western Union Co., the world’s biggest money-transfer business.

In Mexico City last week, Obama, 47, said he remains “committed to fixing our broken immigration system,” and a Senate committee has announced it will begin hearings on the issue next week. Still, David Axelrod, a senior White House adviser, said the president may not be able to make good on his promise to sign legislation within his first year in office. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=avxmcRABpSlw
"Comprehensive Immigration Reform," didn't we do that in 1986? and wasn't it called the Simpson-Mazoli bill? and didn't it make it a crime to hire, house, transport, or otherwise enable illegal immigrants? and wasn't it punishable by ten years in prison for a third offense? and didn't it allow for a general amnasty saying that it was the last and only amnasty? and wasn't it followed by twenty-three years of the federal courts mealie mouthing and falling completely down on their jobs for the chamber of commerce? With that perspective it is not hard to understand why INS agents can't do their jobs with prosecuters that refuse to enforce the law. We don't need new laws; we need new prosecuters and judges. There's nothing unconstitutional or unworkable about stopping illegal immigration, just jail the CEO of Tyson and several other corporations and watch the exodus south.

from recent news reports the economy and employment are worse off then predicted.the unemployment numbers were higher then expected from last month and the outlook for april is going to be even higher. with this type of negative expectations i doubt there would be any consideration of amnesty.the democrats are on a roll and if this was to be voted on and passed it would be like a death sentence for them in short there will be no amnesty ever its to controversial

Well Duh!
You would think so, but most liberals do not see illegal aliens as criminals.

If BO were serious about creating or retaining jobs for Americans, he would immediately issue an Executive Order giving all persons not legally present 30 days to depart with all of their dependents, or else face deportation and a permanent ban on reentering the US. If he were serious about jobs for Americans, he would bar the issuance or renewal of any H1-b, L-1, OPT, J-1, or other employment visa for 2 years.

If he were serious about enforcing our laws, he would not have appointed Janet Napolitano to Homeland Insecurity.

Of course, he has relatives here illegally who have been living off taxpayers for years. He wouldn't want to have to buy them their plane ticket home, or give them $20 to "help them out" out of his own pocket. His raison d'etre for his entire life has been "let the other guy pay" and so he lets all of us pay and pay for these lawbreakers.

Not to the democrats who hate Americans!

I sure wouldn't want to be a foreigner working in the US when the unemployment rate hits 20%.

We need true American's running our country not the ones who will not go up against the Federal Reserve that those people the fat bankers are the ones killing us Palin 2012

Obama is going to shove it down our throats anyhow.

ICE 'em
I will detest him if he pushes for amnesty for all these criminals. He would have to be stupid to think that rewarding law breakers is the thing to do.

I think it's time to start handing out some pink-slips to our government employees if they don't do the job they're told to do. We don't even need to wait till 2012 to do it.

NOT AT ALL! ....if that was the case Obama wouldn't have announced the push for immigration reform last week. The Obama Administration and the majority of Americans know there will still be plenty of jobs Americans refuse to do, especially in the summer time.
