World population needs to be reduced. Isn't it time to limit families of all nationalities to 2 children?

Limiting the birth rate would be the easy way to solve many of the worlds problems.
Unfortunately no leader in a democracy will ever risk his
political ambition, by suggesting it and some cultures are trying to outbreed everyone else.

A sad fact of life that nobody wants to face is, that if we don't
control things, God / Mother Nature will!!!

Control used to be by world wars. These have more or less
stopped but we now have more natural disasters and the emergence of such diseases as Aids, MRSA and C-Diff.

Climate change (Aggravated by our indifference to the state of the planet.) could well be a major factor in reducing the worlds population.

As long as people that have more then 2 children can fully on there own support them....then I say have as many as you can afford.

I think we need to start with all the people on WELFARE that have multiple children that we workers have to support, first!

Actually in many countries now they are having a problem with to few children being born. In Germany they are concerned that the population is dieing out because so many women are choosing not to have children.

Have you actually seen what's happening in china right now? Babies are abandoned on the streets and sometimes even in rubbish tips and left to die because parents are unable to pay the high fines if they give birth to more than one child.

This is one of the worst ideas i have ever heard on YA. The birth rate in the UK is actually dropping and has been doing so for many years.

If people can support their children then who has the right to tell families they can only have two children.

If this law that you are proposing was around then i wouldn't be born as my mother was one of seven children and my father one of thirteen children.

Also, what would happen with people who fall pregnant with triplets?

What gives anyone the right to tell me or any other woman how many children they can have?

Trish, I agree that overpopulation is the greatest problem facing humanity, but your method is not the best solution. The USA and Europe would have declining populations because of low birth rates; but they solve this problem with high levels of immigration; which is a form of national suicide. The way to solve the problem is by the rich nations setting up thousands of family clinics in poor countries that give info to woman about contraception.

Some countries, including the USA, should be encouraging families to have 3 children so we wouldn't be dependent on immigration to maintain our population, while other nations shoud be encouraged to cut back on pop. growth. Here is a good article on the subject: Overpopulation

I agree with you. I would say 2 because I think 1 is a bit extreme - look at China. But I think it would help if they did a programme of contraception in countries such as African ones where there are so many starving children. Why do they continue to have children when there is not enough food for themselves and the children they've already got?

And what do you think they do with there unwanted daughters in china ?...they are left to die or put in orphanages.You cannot dictate to people how many children people have...Communism does not work. The birth rate in the UK isn't rising its dropping and actually there is a fear that with the mass spread of STDs there will be major fertility issues between the next generation ..so I don't really think is is a sensible route to go down.The average family in the UK is less than 2 children as less people are choosing family's and having careers instead.

The world is not over populated! That is an urban legend. If we developed the entire state of Texas we could house then entire world's population there in that one state with ease.

In counties that have implemented these crazy restriction the families all want boys. Thus the girl babies are aborted so they can try again for the boy. Thus there are going to be a lot lonely men in China who can't find a wife. Tens of thousands if not millions! A disaster.

Muslims traditionally have a large family. They encourage many children. I think I read somewhere it's because the more you have, the more likely some will be successful, and the successful ones can take care of everyone (like provide them jobs and stuff). Don't quote me on that.

You can't restrict # of children, that's infringing on our rights to pursuit of happiness. The Amish, for example, also usually have very large families. A law restricting that would directly go against their religion.

I suspect that average rate of birth for the white population in the UK is below 1.0 so we would have to pull our fingers out to achieve your target. The snag is that some of the emerging countries produce like rabbits and there is no doubt that the comparable rise in the UK will not be in our favour.Regulating the birth rate throughout the world is not achieveable.

Leave it to nature , it will deal with overpopulation, the great plague is on it's way billions will die out in a few days by means of a mutating virus. The planet will recover and the great mistake of mankind will be long forgotten.

The world is not over-populated. Its just not distributed evenly enough.

China currently have the one child policy in place... and the misconception of babies being abandoned because of parents preference to the gender is blown out of proportion to what it actually is... but there is a major problem with limiting how many children you can have... currently china has an aging population with not enough children to replace them when they leave their jobs etc... which spells bad news for the economy for many of us... who will produce our goods then? As Frencesca said the world is not over populated just not distributed evenly. Limiting how many children we can have will only create a problem in the future. First there will be a shortage of young to replace our ageing work force. then as we try to correct this the amount of births will rapidly increase again creating a baby boom which means we will have too many young than what is beneficial for us as a country. the most effective way to population control is to leave it alone... let it happen naturally.
