Would it be fair in the assumption that the Mexican government promotes illegal immigration?
Find answers to your legal question.

Would it be fair in the assumption that the Mexican government promotes illegal immigration?

For instance, a few years ago a U.S. corporation moved it's operations to Mexico under the fair trade agreement. Their starting pay was about $3.00 an hour less than our min. wage. The Mexican government stepped in, and told the company they had to lower the wage they had offered. Is the Mexican government trying to keep it's poor populous poor to push them across our border? Do they really make that much more having their citizens move to the U.S. illegally, and send money back, rather than seeing to it that their citizens have a better opportunity in their own country?

My information comes from a friend that served as employee leazon for the co. for two years before coming home to the U.S. It wouldn't be right to give his name without permition.

"Do they really make that much more having their citizens move to the U.S. illegally, and send money back, rather than seeing to it that their citizens have a better opportunity in their own country?"

MEXICO CITY, May 7 (Reuters) - The flow of remittances from Mexicans living abroad will grow as little as 5 percent this year due to tougher migration controls and an economic slowdown in the United States, a top central bank official said.

"The drop in remittances to Mexico has prompted Mexican Secretary of the Interior Juan Camilo Mourino to urge Mexican nationals in the United States to keep sending money and invest in their home country.

"These are our people, our countrymen and their commitment to Mexico is vital to this country," he said. He also added that he plans to expand a social welfare program that seeks to develop Mexico's poorest communities and support Mexican migrants in the United States. "We must find ways to overcome this crisis," said Mourinio who explained that the large number of returnees plus the young people ready to enter the workforce are additional challenges for Mexico's economy.

After years of spectacular growth, remittances from Mexicans living in the United States make up Mexico's second-biggest source of foreign currency, and surged more than 15 percent last year to a record $23 billion.

But the flow of dollars is in danger as the U.S. economy slows, particularly in the construction sector where many Mexican immigrants work, and as U.S. authorities make it harder for would-be illegal workers to get across the border.

Jesus Cervantes, a top statistician at the country's central bank, told Reuters remittances would probably only grow by about 5 or 6 percent this year and not likely exceed $24.5 billion.

With the economy cooling, remittances grew at an annual rate of 3 percent in the first three months of 2007, down from a 28 percent rise during the same period last year.

Yes. A few years ago, the mexican government was printing pamphlets directing illegals across the border, what to avoid, amount of supplies to carry, and how to avoid being detected while crossing the border.

yes. Here's a link to one of their pamphlets on how to come here.

Mexico brings in more money from people sending it back from other countries than they make from their entirre oil industry, which is extensive.
The Mexican government prints and distributes pamphlets with instructions on how to avoid US immigration, maps, what to do if they get caught and general advice on how to cross our border and work in the US illegally.

Mexican Govt. actually printed and distributes pamphlets on how to cross the Border and stay undetected in the US. So yes Mexico promotes Breaking US Federal Laws.

Yes it would be a fair and accurate assumption.
They do make more money by encouraging illegal activity.

illegals or illegal sympathizers are here giving thumbs down....

Edit at psychologyguy
What difference would it make if the other companies could not match the pay...if you need a job you need one regardless of what it pays. Do you mean to say that they simply wont work because they cant get the higher paying job? How ridiculous is that....there are a lot of jobs in America that has varying degrees of pay if you cant get them you get another one until there is an opening...what you say makes no sense.

wes S
They certainly aren't doing anything to discourage the illegal border crossings. Now that I think about it neither is our Gov't!

THRIϟϟE
Yes they do!!

Those border jumpers are taking jobs and killing our country.

I have nothing wrong if they come here legally.

I don't know that particular case, but their government used to print colored comic type books saying how much water to pack to go across the border, how to act if caught by border patrol, and how to stay under the radar once here (avoiding domestic violence, etc.)

They are acting in the best interest of their economy since money sent back is huge and their poor are supported by a different country. I only wish our own congress were acting in our best interest.

Yes, but not overtly. They are a grossly overpopulating culture and they need to get rid of their excess labor or it impoverishes them ever more. So they let it come here to depress our wages, help drain our economy, and impoverish us.

Annie {Due on May 18th ;}
Its win win for them. They have less people to worry about and their citizens here in the states send home money to help the Mexican economy.
Beside we know they like it b/c they have those kits that they give out to "help them survive" coming over

It is not an assumption, it is a fact, and very well documented. Remittances from illegal aliens are Mexico's second largest source of revenue, and becoming their largest source since their oil fields are pretty well played out. Oil revenues are declining. Income from tourism is a distant third. They want those "remittances." And they make no bones about it.

The Mexican officially does not respect US sovereignty; they do not respect our borders. It is okay for Mexico to depot illegal immigrants but they have to nerve to criticize the United States government for the crackdown on illegal immigrants in this country. Talk about hypocrisy!

Mexican President Calderón stated “I have said that Mexico does not stop at its border, that wherever there is a Mexican, there is Mexico,” in September 2007.

Plus, the Mexican government gives out pamphlets to Mexicans on how to sneak into the United States. This is official promotion of illegal immigration into the United States by the Mexican government. Need I say more?

It is not an assumption, it is a fact!

mizzhollywood26
Well they sure don't have a problem with it. They sure don't discourage it.

It is not an assumption, they hand out maps and instructions on how to get free social programs from the stupid Americans.

When you say:

"The Mexican government stepped in, and told the company they had to lower the wage they had offered."

Where do you get this information????

You need to check your source of information, make sure is reliable and trust full, do no let main stream media brain-wash you. If you listen to average media outlets and believe everything they say, then you are at fault.

It's a great business plan - they export 20-40 million of their trash and import 20 billion dollars!

Yes. They don't want their poor.. they do want their citizens to come here and send their wages home. Yes, and it is going to stop.

Lets not forget the call centers the MX consulate opened in AZ. The purpose was to provide legal help to their illegals in the US.

Free Man
Yes, President Fox has even met illegally with state leaders in New Mexico to encourage them to ignore US federal law. This would be considered treason by the state officials if the issue wasn't under such contention.
We need to be specific though about what illegal immigration we are talking about. Mexico does not allow illegals from Guatemala to live in Mexico and many thousands are kept in prison camps in southern Mexico unlike what America does to it's illegals, just deports.

Actually, my opinion is that if they start paying those folks more money than most of the Illegals that come here won't. And that would drive there economy way up so the rich would actually have to start paying them what is right, and not what they feel like, and yes there President a couple years ago and around Christmas time made an announcement that those mexicans in the US who would send money to there kinfolk in Mexico would be given and extra percentage, apparently our US Dollars are better than there pesos.

Just b/c it is written on the internet or newspaper does not make it true. This falls into that catagory.
Why on earth would ,or even COULD, Mexico tell a US corp. what to pay the employee? They would risk losing the taxes collected to China. Does not make sense..........How could mexico legally even propose to a US owned company what the rate of pay will be ? They cannot.
Mexicans do not leave their homeland for the low wages alone. If I could manage a living ,and be with my family on familiar grounds , I certainly would. They are leaving for the un employment rate approaching 35%. Plain and simple. They are also returning home as work in the US has stalled.
Another thing you fail to realise - the average educated worker here only brings home about $20 a day. I know of two college educated computer IT guy's that are HAPPY to be waiting tables.

Mexican Gov't could care less about promoting jobs ! They have a serious drug trafficing problem and the internal corruption that has caused. This has put them on the world stage recently and pressure is mounting from the US. Job creation have never been a big priority here - not in the past, and certainly not now.

Now to address your immigration issue. Trust me , many are returning home as there are no jobs in America at the moment. Now is the time to start implemanting and adhereing to our lax immigration and border issue. get them back home and tighten up the borders and the problem will be minimized. Unforeseen benifit of the slumping economy.

While that is one hell of an interesting story you tell, the only logical reason I can see for this action would be that Mexican companies could not compete with the "higher pay" of the American company and if that American company didn't lower its pay it would cripple the workforce of multiple Mexican companies which would, in turn, cause them to go out of business as they could not maintain competitive hiring. If those companies then went out of business the net result would be far more unemployed Mexicans than if the American company lowered is pay rate keeping the other companies in the market.

Other than that, I have no idea...
