Here's the Canadian Govt's take on it.

BTW, it's probably going to take years to get accepted as an immigrant there.

It might be. Depends on your opportunities. Depends on your immigration status, education level, work history, etc.

Canada is a more responsible country when it comes to their monetary stability........The education is similar to the U.S. as is the employment, but the pay is less. Living is much the same and with a country-wide population of less than that of the state of California, the crime rate is lower. They have very strict gun-laws but big cities have gangs none the less. It would probably be fun and different to live there for a while and who knows....you may end up staying. One caution.... If you're leaving the U.S. to escape your problems, you'll probably just take them with you. A new location won't change you....you have to change you.

It's fairly close to the US except Canadians are more laid back. Since Canada is currently having a slight crisis too, even if you have a way to immigrate via skilled worker or whatever without a job, it would not be advisable to do that right now. Better to get a job before you go. As for getting a job, it's hard to do when you are not there. You can go as a visitor and look around, do some interviews but it's definitely a hurdle when the employer needs to apply for your work permit. Also depends a lot on your occupation.

Chances are, if you're going to make $250 000 or less, Canada is better.
