Would you support rewriting "Automatic Birthright citizenship" in the U.S. constitution?

Additional Details
I Know I Won't Be right for saying this but I believe only children born to American parents should be considered American at birth…

Hell yes, we need to very badly, it's not fair, especially for people who have put their work in for this country.

siderman
yes if you are not a legal citizen your children are not citizens either.

Stop spending
Yes I think at least one parent should have to be a legal resident.

i agree with you, this would cut down on some of the financial burden this country is dealing with. i can tell you that here in AZ it is a HUGE problem with illegals coming here, having children (on the system i might ad), and then getting all kinds of benefits for those kids because they are citizens. the system is basically bankrupt, and we don't even have a county hospital for the poor anymore because they went out of business due to this very issue.

Why won't you be right? In fact, you are 100% correct. The USA is in a terrible situation. We need to follow most of the rest of the world and adopt a standard that requires the parents to be at least green card holders.

bridgesandrew96
Yes I would.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but if you want to hang the idiot clerk that made the mistake that enabled birthright citizenship, I would help with the slip know.

The 14th Amendment is clear: The children of diplomats, visitors, and illegal aliens will not be considered citizens.

I agree. However, if we don't change the law, please add to it to read that citizens must stay with their parents in their country of citizenship until they are able to support themselves in this country, as well as serve 4 years in the military.

Bloody Queen Boudicca
Hi Q
I'm a Brit so not really qualified to answer your question.
However, I took the trouble of reading other answers and as a result I have duly reported the odious YUMA for his/her stenchful output (here and elsewhere).
Please could everyone else of a similar opinion take a minute out to do the same?
Cheers!

That's what our forefathers intended. Giving citizenship to children born to LPRs is not going to solve any problems. They are still eligible for benefits, they can still sponsor family to come legally. Their parents are still citizens of and loyal to another country. They still can't or won't teach their child english.
The 14th does not grant birthright citizenship to babies born to foreigners or aliens. Our gov is misusing the 14th for their own purpose.

No, I will not support it. the reason is, that there are many immigrants that come to this ( legal, illegal) and many of them are good people who are working very hard helping this nation. Thanks to them, we enjoy many things that they don't have in their countries.
Your ancestors, regardless when they come, even the new immigrants, (not hundreds of years ago) are coming for a reason, to have an opportunity in life to improve themselves. There are good and bad everywhere including Americans. We can't say that because we are here before them you then will close the doors to every one, because that is the attitude of SOME people who don't care about other human beings.
We need a good reform is difficult but not impossible and SOME people need to stop hating immigrants, legal or not.

No.

If that had been put into the Constitution, we would be a nation of very few citizens.

Revisionists forget about how many millions of people immigrated to the USA from Europe after WWI and WWII and during the 19th century. Many people who advocate these laws forget or do not realize that when their ancestors arrived in this nation, they were not citizens, their children would not have become citizens and a majority of the population would have never qualified.

Contrary to popular belief, the overwhelming majority of Americas do not have ancestors that were in this country when it was formed.

Hard question to answer. At this time, I would have to say no, but I could be persuaded to change my mind.
