I agree that illegals who come to this country and work should be allowed to stay here. They do a lot of jobs that people who were born here think they are "too good" to have to do. Those same Americans who won't do the manual labor job for $5 an hour aren't "too good" to go on welfare.
We should exile welfare recipients who could work but choose not to, and let the illegals who want to stay here and make something of themselves stay. |

you are opening up a can of worms with this questions. If i was living the way I am now, then no. $5 / hr would not be nearly enough to live on. However if i was living with 10 family members all of whom where chipping in on the mortgage(or rent), then $5 would be possible. So depends on the situation you are in. |

I don't know a single illegal (and I know a lot of them) who works for less than 15 bucks an hour. Besides, those wages are depressed because illegals will do the work. Employers will pay hire wages when they are unable to obtain workers for that prices. Why do you think people join unions?

State hospitals CANNOT refuse ANYONE seeking medical care. However, you can't always compel someone to pay a bill. Especially if you can't find them. |

Would I work for 5 an hour NO - it's below minimum wage and I need and am worth more.
As for tax dollars - if you visit a county ER they HAVE to treat you. But if you can't pay - guess who does - the tax payers who support the hospital. And if a mother gives birth, her child is then a native born citizen - and there are public assistance programs for that - another drain on the tax-payer.
Also, as a sovereign nation - don't we have the right to control our borders? Don't we have a right to accept or deny new citizens according to our own will?
But in any case I wouldn't worry about it. If you're really passionate run for office, lobby, become a policy maker. |

The obvious hypocrisy directed at immigrants in any country,is a control mechanism to put fear into the right wing staus quo.

I worked for less- and i'm white (shock). Try hauling hay in 100+ degree heat for 10 cents a bale when you're a teenager, cause I wasn't "given" money to go blow- I had to earn it.
I grew up in the middle of nowhere- we rode bicycles or walked, and I made it just fine until I could save up and buy a car. There never has been any public transport here and there probably never will be.
I managed my finaces for years without a bank account- it's called a shoebox under the bed (mixed with a little fiscal responsibility)
And I grew up in the 1990's!
So no- I don't feel sorry for illegals, if them leaving means lettuce prices go through the roof that's fine, I can live without salad.
They can have thier shot at the American dream, but they need to do it according to our laws. Anyone who is here illegally has no respect for America had thus should not benefit from being here. |

Right now, I'd be happy to earn whatever I can get. I've been out of work for a while and it's been very hard to get a job. Sure, at $5.00 an hour, I'd barely be able to get by. But right now, I'm getting $0.00 an hour sitting around waiting for people to call me back and running around going to interviews. So $5.00 would be better than nothing.
I've heard stories of illegals who can do day jobs and pick up $50 - $100 a day doing odd jobs without having to go through weeks of interviews and paperwork. I wish a non-immigrant who lived an honest life had the same advantages. |

i agree with you. i dont know why all of a sudden they are causing such an uproar. i also live in PA, and i dont see a lot of illegals. mabey if i lived in the southwest near mexico it would be different.
and to answer your first question, if i was completly broke and had no way to feed my family and there were no ther jobs out there, then i would work a $5/hr manual job. |

When they do manual jobs for $5 an hour they are undermining living wages for those legally here.
Meanwhile our schools in border states are failing under the impact of overcrowding, underfunding and constantly increasing populations of ESL program students. They no longer adequately educate our own children, not to mention the fact that the middle class is paying subsidies to educate the children of those illegally here.
Health care is in a similar situation.
When we can't take care of our own, it is very much at our expense and at the expense of our children that they are here. Why don't you fight for the right for American citizens to live the American Dream, instead? |

And you are right, they are not able to use the taxpayers money, else someone find them here illegally.
Immigrants work hard in every aspect of their lives just to survive "the american dream".
And americans use their services often and don't even realise it!
People who would treat another human badly for being different should be turned into the person that they are hurting, just to see what it is like!

Listen here bud, I do the 5th most dangerous job in america for the wage of $4.05 per hour, I have no health insurance and gross too much to qualify for food stamps, so dont tell me how bad they have it! |

Pros and Cons never end. The Fact is many low entry level jobs been taken away by the illegal immigrants which should be available for our unemployed. They never contribute to the income tax system and enjoy many benefits when they have kids that born here.
Food stamps, lines at the local hospital, social help........to name a few. But one thing you discover often is most of the money they made are sending back home and not a penny is contribute to our economy. So next time when you wonder why the well dressed up foreigner who drive a nicer car than yours in the supermarket line is using food stamps, you may want to take that $ 5.00/hour job! By the way, many of them won't work for $5.00/hour after they been here for a while. |
