Wouldn't you think that with the economy the going bad they would try harder to stop illegal immigration?

I disagree with you, La Mojada. Illegal immigration has hurt this economy. How? schools have to hire more teachers, pay for ESL programs, and more money for free / reduced lunches. Hospitals have to write off millions of dollars due to illegal immigrants not having money to pay for health care. Government paying money to support illegal immigrants through a variety of programs. Business having to comply with zoning laws regarding shelters for day workers and having to spend time verifying the worker they have hired can legally work. What does this mean? Illegal immigrants are costing the economy by not allowing resources to be used as they were intended and having to be used eases the pressure that illegal immigrants are placing on it. By allocating resources to alleviate the pressure that illegal immigrants place on it the economy cannot grow as fast and any downturn in the economy will take longer to recover.

I agree we should kick out the illegal workers as it would definitely drive down the cost of education, health care, and government services. However Pelosi see illegal immigrants as patriots and misunderstood which means until Washington understands the economic damage illegals do to the economy nothing will be done to address the problem.

You would think so. But most of our elected officials are idiots, and will not come down hard on illegals. In fact, read up on the Dream Act. That's a winner :-(

But then again when you get answers like "As a matter of fact, contrary to popular belief, illegal immigrants receive NO form of "help" from the government such as food stamps or welfare. That is illegal." It makes you wonder how some people think! If something being illegal stops people from doing it then the 30 million illegal, immoral, criminal invaders are not here! so if we see one in a ditch we shouldn't call an ambulance because they are not really here? How moronic would that be? According to the FBI:
58% of welfare payments go to illegal aliens
over 43% of food stamps go to illegal aliens
over 41% of unemployment checks go to illegal aliens
almost 60% of HUD residents are illegal aliens
but they don't get any "help" from the government because it's illegal!

The economy going bad or good has nothing to do with illegal immigration or controlling the borders.

This county cannot let anyone in because outsiders say so. This country needs to control immigration and has the moral right to do so. Plus, this country like all other counties has the moral right to be xenophobic. There are no open borders.

All non-US citizens need permission by the US government to be in this country, according to US Code 8. The immigration laws are just and fair and do not need to be challenged, amended, or removed.

Immigration benefits this country and not the other way round.

No politician is going to spend a dime on anything until forced to do so. Give a government department a million dollars and more than half will go to feathering their own nests with overseas junkets and flash chauffeur driven limos.All this means is there is less money to hire front line police to guard the borders.

I would have thought that 9/11 would have done that. Now with the swine flu being brought into this country (via people returning home from Mexico and continued to be allowed across the border from Mexico) they would do more about anyone coming into the country from south of the border. And adamantly checking at all other points of entry. Land, Air, and Sea.

Just because Obama says that the CDC has told them "it's like closing the barn door after the pigs have been let out", does not mean that we keep letting them flow through the borders.

Americans and legal residents will do those jobs. Uneducated, and drop outs will do those jobs. The fact is illegals displace, and compete with the U.S. citizens, and legal residents on the jobs they once did, and would do again if the illegals were gone. They also compete with legal Hispanics who do those jobs/once did those jobs.

Not only should they do something more effective about illegals, but they should also cease handing out work visas to businesses and companies who bring foreigners.

How many americans do you think will willingly get out of bed at 6:00 a.m. and start working in a farm, building a house, or paving a street....on a day when its over 90 degrees and you are hot and sweaty in the sun....and not getting paid ****......try doing that everyday.

many americans are too lazy. They want to be lawyers, doctors etc. Someones gotta build our houses and pave our streets.....So do you wanna step up and voulunteer to pave a road so an illegal will go? No? Okay I didnt think so.
