I don't think most people would have any objection to your speaking Spanish, as long as you are courteous. That is, if you are in a room full of non Spanish speaking people, and you spent your time speaking out loud in Spanish to a buddy, it could become annoying. Unfortunately I have noticed English speaking people are too often guilty of that discourtesy when they are in a country where another language is spoken.
So it's not a question of what language you speak at all - just a question of respect and courtesy. |

I don't care if you speak Klingon, but when you want to shop at a store, go to schoo, get a job, or apply for government programs, you need to know how to speak english. At home or with your friends, who cares what you speak? |

I don't have an issue if you speak Spanish-- go for it.
But if you're talking to me, you'd better speak in English if you expect to communicate.
And, if I'm a customer of a business you work for, I also expect you to speak English when serving me as a customer.
What are you ranting about-- sheesh! |

No offense but why should we bend over backwards to learn a language in a country where English is the dominant language...and even then...just for you? Geez, you exude arrogance. I, myself, know 3 other languages besides English, and I went to school in France...so don't give me the cultural argument you pompous ***. It holds no water with me.
Note to your addendum: I agree to an extent. I personally don't harp on hispanics. But when they turn around and demand I speak spanish or they think I don't know what they are saying behind my back (Spanish is latin based language like French, Italian, Basque, and Romanian)...I speak to them in Russian just to turn the tables. |

What would you do if we came to Mexico and demanded that you speak English to us? And uh, yes the official language of America is English! |

Who cares? Speak and write any language you choose... but if you speak Spanish to a person who doesn't understand the language, don't expect to get and answer! My wife is Cuban, but she speaks English to me because she wants and answer. When she's talking to her family she and they speak Spanglish! As long as there's communication and understanding, the language used is unimportant! Get over your anger, and communicate!! |

I have no problem with whatever language you want to speak with your friends or family. It is when you want us to speak your language that I have a problem. English is the commonly accepted language. |

It is not a matter of expecting you to speak english with your friends, as much as it is in general. What I mean is, this is not mexico, this is not a predominently spanish speaking country. Why then should we have to put spanish on most products sold nowadays? Why should we cater to you instead of you conforming to us?
Yes, you speak english, but there are millions of mexicans that come here illegally that do not and expect us to bend over backwards to make it easy for them.
Sorry, no.
Hate on us "White crackheads" or whatever you called us all you like, fact is, this is our country, not yours. If you don't like it, you're free to leave... Encouraged I would go as far as saying. |

I don't care what language you speak. Just don't expect me to cater to you by learning yours. |

Hey, you can go ahead and keep speaking spanish, and guess what America will always be divided. Basically, the whites are the majority and you'll never stand side by side with me. Your not my American brother. Show some loyalty to this great country and maybe whites would cut you some slack |

Freedom of Speech only goes so far though.. America does have a language. it is English. that is why in school you take Spanish as a foreign language. I don't care what you do with your friends or at home but if you want customer service learn English.
Info from page below!!!
English is the language of freedom, commerce and opportunity around the world. Declaring English the official language of the United States will provide legal protection against ill-advised government actions which harm or ignore English. On Aug. 1, 1996, the House of Representatives voted 259-169 to declare English the official language of the United States; the Senate never acted on the bill. |

white kid- i see no problems if you want to speak spanish or whatever to anyone who can understand, my only problems are if you speak to me and ridicule me for not understanding or if your just being really loud and obnoxious so that all we can hear is you and not the person right next to us. |

I don't care if you're speaking personally to another Spanish speaker, but if you both can speak English and you're in a social or business atmosphere it's rude and inconsiderate. |

I worked with a couple of Puerto Ricans and the thing that made mad was the fact that they wouldn't teach me to swear in Spanish. I took 3 years of Spanish in high school and could converse with them if they spoke slowly, but I never learned to swear in high school and it made me mad that my coworkers wouldn't help me learn. |
