how do a us citizen help her illegal sister get a green card?

I just got my citizenship and I would like to help my sister become legal in America. How can I help her?

I came to America legally and got a green card and then i got my citizenship. My sister came to america legally and over stayed and is now illegal. If I knew how an illegal person can get a green card, I wouldn't have asked this question.

Because it,s election year 2012 you still have time to file for her it will take 5 months so file now and you should get a response soon , she does not have to leave the US to get a green card you can petition for her but you should do it now after you read this go and seek a lawyer fill out the affivati of support and send it in ASAP before June 2012 good luck.

The only way is if she marries a US citizen. This is only possible because she entered the US legally, which she would have to prove. Otherwise she cannot get a green card without leaving the US.

if your sister is living in the US illegally, there really isn't any way to help her legalize. while you can file an immigrant petition for her, that won't be valid for use for at least 10 years and she'd have to leave and eventually apply for an immigrant visa back home. however, if you are her only relative in the US, she wouldn't be able to apply for a waiver of the ineligibilty caused by her illegal stay here. So, the only way you could help, would be to file the petition and have her leave immediately. then eventually she'd be able to get the immigrant visa and return.

You sister leaves the US. You sponsor her for a greencard. It will take about 10 years for your sister to get a greencard. Your sister will be banned for 10 years from reentering the US due to overstaying. Your sister can't get a greencard through you while being illegally in the US.
If she really wants to fix her status, the longer she waits, the harder will it be to leave. And the longer it will be until she can return. Currently she can't legally work, can't travel outside the US, could get deported any time. She would be better off somewhere where she is legal to stay.
