$200 deductible for windshield replacement?

I have the comprehensive option on my insurance and am using it to replace my car's windshield. There's apparently a $200 deductible when going through insurance company... I always thought that it means that I pay $200 and the rest will be paid by the insurer. Now the company changing the windshield (Morrey Auto Group) is telling me that I only get $200 off (e.g. if the actual bill is $800 I have to pay $600). Should I accept this or are they charging too much?

I live in Canada, BC and have my car insured with the monopoly ICBC.

These people really need to think about hiring staff who can communicate in English. The guy at Morrey, whom I could barely understand, told me that I have to pay $200 and even showed me a bill stating that I have to pay ~600. I just called up the company and asked another person about the bill; they said I pay $200!... Thanks everyone for lightning responses.

If you have $200 deductible, then you pay the first $200. If you have $200 in coverge, then you pay everything over $200. You need to find out what you have.

If the window is not totally wrecked, you might be able to do a window repair that is covered better by most insurance companies.

Those that think $800 is a ridiculous price for a windshield should look around. There are some cars with less expensive windshields, but there are also cars with much more expensive ones. Heck, my old Plymouth had an $875.00 windshield! And there were no used ones to be had.But, as for the deductible, you pay whatever deductible you selected and paid for on your policy, whether it be $500, $200, or whatever, and your insurance company pays the rest. It is a no-brainer claim for both the company and the glass shop. I replaced a window on my old Mercury wagon, which I was able to buy used, for $150 parts and labour, but I got lucky on that one, finding a wreck that came in the yard, where I knew the owner, the day before I went there. A new window had a price over $500.00.

They are charging too much. As far as your acceptance goes - they couldn't care less.
Is it possible that the glass shop charges you too much? If "customary" price listed in the repair manual is $400, and your deductible is $200, insurance will pay the remaining $200. If this is the case - go to another place or ask your insurance co if they have a shop in their network. Usually, these shops charge you the approved amount, and you get lifetime warranty. AND - in case something goes wrong - you can address the issue to the insurance company, and they DO have means to reason the shop.

To begin with, $800 is a ridiculous price for a windshield. $300 to $500 would be more like it. Go find a glass company that has some clue what they are doing and hires employees that speak English (or French since you're in Canada).

Forget the $200.00 deductible insurance. You can get most of glasses replace under $200.00. Only it is used glass. You can hardly tell if it is new or used.

That's wrong. You are right. $200 deductible means that you pay the first $200 and the insurance company picks up the rest. $800 for a windshield replacement sounds awful high anyways. I'd ask the insurance company to investigate them. They sound like crooks.
