Find answers to your legal question.

7 points on my license, im only 19?

I get lots of speeding tickets, how screwed am I.

I don't pay insurance right now, I drive my dads car, so when I start to pay for myself how bad will it be.

I live in NC

If you are convicted of certain motor vehicle violations in North Carolina, driver license points are placed against your driving record. If you accumulate seven points, you may be assigned to a Driver Improvement Clinic. The clinic fee is $50. Upon satisfactory completion of the clinic, three points are deducted from your driving record. If you accumulate as many as twelve points within a three-year period, your license may be suspended. The accumulation of eight points within three years following the reinstatement of your license can result in a second suspension.

If your driver license is suspended by the point system, it may be taken for:

60 days for the first suspension;
6 months for the second; and
12 months for the third.

Guess you neglected to read the manual? It's in Chapter 3, titled "POINTS"

Odds are, you will not be able to afford insurance for yourself. I have a clean record, I'm 30, and my car is worth $9,000, and I pay $50 per month.

So, considering the fact that you're a single, male teen with 7 points, you should be prepared to pay in the range of $250 - 300 per month in insurance.

Say_What?
It will be bad even without the tickets. Most insurance companies charge extra if your a male under 25.

Insurance rates are done by "probabilities" and the probabilities show male drivers under the age of 25 are the ones most likely to have accidents.

The fact that you have "lots of speeding tickets" means you can't even buy from the "good" or "big" insurance companies. You'll have to go to one of the fly by night outfits that does cut-rate insurance. It is cut-rate because it is very bad - years ago I had one of these policies and it took them a month to even send an appraiser out let alone settle the claim.

The problem with so many speeding tickets isn't so much that you're violating the law but that you got caught. If you pay so little attention that you can't figure out when to slow down before being pulled over by spotting cops in the distance or seeing break lights in the distance then you're also more likely not to see the accident you're about to have.

A couple of "rules" I have for myself on long road trips:

Don't exceed speed limit by more than 10 MPH - police are looking for the real lead foots - not the ones that are just cruising.

Watch for break lights in the distance. If you suddenly see people slowing down and can't see the reason for it then it usually means there is a police officer up there OR something that might involve you in an accident. Slowing down proactively helps you avoid both.

Don't weave in and out of traffic - this "reckless driving" and is more likely to get you pulled over than simply driving fast.

Slow down in work zones where workers are present. No matter how good a driver you may think you are it only takes one careless misstep by one of the workers or a nervous driver next to you to cause a fatality.

Bruder's right about the fact that you will be paying MUCH more expect $200/month. Bruder's wrong about people getting killed. It would be worse if you killed someone else.

that's not good, I live in NC too and my hubby and I use Affordable Insurance, they specialize in getting you good rates when you have points (my hubby has one point for a rolling stop at stop sign from 2005), if their is not one in your area look in yellow pages for a company that does that, it will save you a ton of money, and slow down, not only is it dangerous but if you get up to 12 I think it is you will lose your license for 1 year, might even be more than that
