please tell me if you have payed any money out ..and who did you pay it to .have you received correspondence with her insurance ...and does she ask you for any money ...you cant do anything about the cost ..but I don't think she understands the principle of doing things without the insurance incurring higher premiums next year |

it is fair, as you admitted guilt. this means they can take reasonable steps to fix the car, and beleive me 400 is nowt for a body fix. |

As DF says the quote is not way out of line. There is no obligation on her to take a cheap job and she is entitled to have her car put back as it was. The real difficulty is that the amount of £400 is just too small [relatively] for you to take any legal action. There is no need for "her insurance company" to contact you. The matter is between her and you. The advice is - I fear - to bite the bullet and pay up. If you do not she can sue you in the small claims court which will affect your credit rating and so on. |

When you said you would pay yourself, you should have added a condition that you want to see and accept a quote first. Looks like you didn't, so you pay the bill as is. That's not an unreasonable price for repairs, depending on what was involved. |

you should have used your insurance as the prices come back much worse than they look these days. however, it's probably too late to do that now.
that's not unreasonable and her insurance company, nor her, were required to call you first. pay up.
use your insurance next time. |

That's a fair price so pay her. You told her you would cover the cost.People don't realize the cost of auto repair,it's a lot anymore. |

You have possibly got a good deal. I wanted a small scratch on my car repaired and the cost was in the region of £250. I got three quotes |

You were the one that didn't want the insurance involved. |

Many car manifacturers sell the pressings and moulds for there models after about 5 years after they go out of production and other companys buy up the equipment and then they can charge pretty much what they want for panels, i know a guy who had to pay £1500 for a wing for mk1 capri! so older cars can cost a fortune to repair, i had a small dent on sill and a bit of chipped paint on the other sill done about a year ago and cost £200 (cash) and some wings have to be cut off and new ones welded on, which is a very specialized skill to get done 100% properly,so personally wouldnt say £400 sounds too bad, sorry not what you wanted to hear was it? |

i don't think your insurance is going to go up by more than 200 pounds if do claim so why don't you put it on your insurance because you probabily could do with a bumper replacement too. |

Don't write that check until you consider using your own insurance to pay for the others damages. Isn't that why we buy insurance in the first place ? Using your own insurance will stop her from harassing you too and she won't be coming back later claiming that "hidden damage" was just found..It's almost never a good idea to settle on your own when you have insurance as you have found out |
