Accident/ insurance repair question????

Had a deer run into side of car.Insurance sent us to repair shop of their choice to have estimate done and adjuster see car.Estimate involves using crash generic parts and replacement generic parts.We want original parts not generic or crash parts.Must we be made to accept the generic and crash parts since it makes the estimate lower?We have choice of whom we want to repair but insurance company is not wanting to put original manufactor parts back on it because it will be a higher. Is it my choice on this or Geico's?

Your insurance company is perfectly within their legal limits using aftermarket and used parts. Its written into your policy (im sure they will gladly show you your contract...)

So.. contact a lawyer, better business bureau... whoever your little heart desires and it wont change a thing.

You are owed like kind and quality.. and after market products are just fine. Dont fall into fords and other large manufacturers traps. They make individual parts overly expensive so THEY can make a profit. If we used all new factory parts your insurance would be through the roof! Its a freaking piece of metal for gods sake- whats it matter where it came from as long as it fits and is safe?

You don't have to use aftermarket parts. If you want the OEM parts go ahead and get them. You are going to have to pay the difference in price between the two. All the insurance company owes you for is aftermarket parts.

CHECK WITH THE BOARD OF INSURANCE IN YOUR STATE AND TELL THE SAME STORY THAT YOU HAVE JUST TOLD US, I BET THAT WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS THAT INSURANCE COMPANY WILL BE SINGING A DIFFERENT SONG.

In Indiana if the car is over three model years old, meaning since the 2008 model years are out, so if it's a 2005 or older, they are not required to put OEM parts on, they can use generic parts. You can pay the difference if you would like to have OEM parts.

In all honesty, it really doesn't matter much. The aftermarket parts are just as good and often made at the same plant as the OEM parts.

Federal law, it is YOUR choice, Period. They cannot even tell you where to get it repaired. If they give you any kind of run around tell them you are going to your state's reg board.
