Accident while Delivering?

Today I am involved in an accident while delivering food.

I aleady know that insurance company does not cover property damage of a vehicle while being used by a person while employed or engaged in the business of delivering. However THIS ONLY DELIVERY I MADE WAS JUST HELPING OUT MY BROTHER ON SAT. WHILE HIS PIZZA STORE WAS BUSY AND I AM NOT EMPLOYEED BY HIM. I honestly told the claim rep that I was on delivery but I've being told by him that I would probably not get liability coverage under this situation. The claim was made but it is still waiting for decision.

The insurance company is PROG****VE

What should I do?

Stop being so honest, 'fraid to say.

I take it you were at fault and/or there was no other driver or property owner involved to claim from.
You learned a lesson about doing favors. Really your brother should pay.

Additional Detail: well you could try telling them you were not an employee of your brother, so it was not commercial use. That should work.

no auto insurance company will cover you if you are delivering anything, pizzas, newspapers or mail. you did the crime now you do the time

It really depends on how the policy exclusion is worded, and what proof you have that you do not regularly use your vehicle for business. Then again, the insurance company may not look too deeply into the reasons. Perhaps they'll just take the little information you gave them and go with it.

If you feel you can beat the policy contract you have with them, pursue it. You may need an attorney though, and I never recommend them, but perhaps there is some case law that an attorney can research for you pertinent to your situation in the state where you live. Good luck!

Call ****RESSI** again and talk to someone else...Tell them the other representative misunderstood you. You weren't "on delivery", you went to get a pizza for your brother.

Change insurance companies. If the police report shows a mutual fault, you are responsible for your car's damage. However, if they don't want to pay, your only option is to sue the other party involved.

i agree..it was none of your insurances business, if this is not your normal job....you shouldn't have said a word . never give up more information than is asked for..

Next time don't be so damn honest. Never tell a cop or insurance adjuster anything more than you are asked. If you can help it say "I have nothing to say." When it comes to the government or big business there are no simple questions, only wrong answers and they're counting on you to give them.

When you used your car to deliver for your brother's company, you became engaged in commercial driving whether you delivered one or a thousand. If you were not an employee, you were an independent contractor. That why you don't do such things, because if there is an accident, you don't get covered unless you have set up a commercial policy.

And why are you afraid of saying Progressive is your insurance company? Not that it really matters which company it is, they all have similar rules.
