No. You have the right as a consumer to determine where to get your car fixed. Most insurance companies have "preferred" shops that they deal with frequently. I would ask about these and check reputations, but the decision is ultimately up to you.

Absolutely NOT! They will try and make you think the opposite. But in the end, it is your car not theirs. They may also try to make you use after market parts because they are cheaper. You don't have to do that either.

Short answer? No, they can't.

Longer answer: It is your car. You don't even have to get it repaired even if they pay you for the repairs. Usually? The insurance company will make recommendations.....

If you use one of their preferred shops they will even guarantee the repairs (which should help give you peace of mind).

But.......BIG but....If you are the insured and there is a lien holder on the vehicle? The payment will be made out to you and the lien holder. Usually the lien holder will not sign off on the check until the repairs are completed.

They can. But it's just a suggestion. Generally, the place they want you to go will be chaper than another place. Cheaper for you and them.

To a certain extent, but it depends on the wording of your policy and the local laws, both. If you have gone for the estimates, and only obtained them from shops you trust, they can tell you which one to go to. If your car was not driveable, and was towed, chances are it will be fixed where it is unless the company wants to spring for another tow. Now, they may have contract shops. Sometimes they get guarantees on repairs, up to lifetime in some cases, when your repairs are at their preferred shops. That benefits you as well. Good luck.

No. The repair shop is ALWAYS your choice, however, your policy may only warranty repairs at their select shops. Remember, the shop has to be competetive with their pricing and labor -- the insurance company is under no obligation to pay for excessive costs.

Typically they insurance company will ask you to get quotes from 2-3 different places, then they will agree to pay lowest, or middle average $.

You can get it fixed where you please, but the insurance might not pay the full amount.

No, but they tell you which body shop they deal with. If you don't chose one of their preferred shops the will just send you a check for what they feel the damage is. Insurance is a scam...but we have have it!!
