If someone is given permission to drive an insured vehicle and has a valid license, the cars insurance company will pay.....but.... In this case I would ask the driver to pay instead of the insurance company

Assuming your sister has liability insurance on her car they will have to pay. This is a lesson people have to learn the hard way everyday. When you borrow your car to somebody you are also borrowing your insurance to them. She he was given permission to move the car he becomes an insured person under the policy on your sister's car. Might not seem right to most folks based on the answers so far, but that is how it works.

If your sis has no insurance and it is required in your state then either her or the driver can be held responsible. It's just a matter of who the other guy wants to sue.

If your sis has insurance report it to them and they will handle it. If she doesn't then her and the driver better get their checkbooks out.

If he was any kind of a friend, he would. He did it!
But he is not, all he wants is a free ride.
His father is enabling him, by expecting others to pick up the ticket for the boys actions.
But in the end, most likely your family will have to foot the bill because it was your sisters car.
Do your self favor and don't think of this person as a friend. Because a friend does not treat a friend this way. You deserve better!

The person driving the car is ultimately responsible for their own driving whether it is their car or someone Else's. Just because they had permission to drive it doesn't give them an excuse to wreck it. Had they not had permission to drive it, then they could be charged with something worse. At least it sounds like no one what hurt except some friendships perhaps.

Fighting Saints has a good point below.....Perhaps it depends on the state also. I suppose if you had a license but no vehicle, then you wouldn't have insurance anyway, which is why I think fighting saints is probably correct.

If you know the person and they have insurance they pay for it, but if they don't have insurance then your insurance pays for it and your insurance rate goes up.

The person who drove should pay. His parents insurance should pay the deductibles and get the cars fixed. Your insurance will probably raise your rates for making a claim and for letting a driver other than those that are insured to drive the car. Never let anyone drive your car. You never know what will happen.

quite rightly.........your mom did give permission for him to move it............not to go tearing up n down the street playing dogem cars.........hes got in the cae at his own risk.....HE SHOULD PAY THE CONSEQUENCES.....i.e: DAMAGE!!!!!!!
