Am i supposed to add my 15 year old son to my insurance if he is in driver's ed. and practicing in my car?

My son is in driver's education class and he is practicing driving my car. Am i supposed to add him to my insurance? or is it covered since he is enrolled in driver's education?

Some insurance companies may have certain things that pertain to this, but generally speaking no. You only add licensed drivers to your insurance policy. Because he only has a permit, you, or whomever he is driving with, is responsible for his actions. He's speeding, the ticket goes to you, at least in my city. I'd check with your insurance company to make sure, but that's what my parents did.

I think it's different for different states... we don't have drivers ed, here... well, it's not required, anyway. It just allows you to get your license sooner.

Check with the people at the drivers education place and call your insurance company to check.

Thank you Baltimore
good. question. that's what i wanted to know.

I believe that the best thing to do is to contact your Insurance company and ask them as all company And state laws are Different

No, he won't have to be added to your policy as a secondary driver until he is. To be a driver you need a drivers license. Once he get that he needs to be added. As of now he will never be alone in the car.

no, but your supposed to call your insurance company and let them know about it, or else if he crashes and they dont know about him driving, the insurance company wont pay for it

????
No, you dont have to add him, you just have to have the insurance information in the car when he uses it.

I would definitely add him to your insurance. He's driving your car and it would make for a bad situation if he got into an accident while practicing in your car.

No he is not covered. If he is driving your car then he needs to be added as a driver of your car through your insurance policy

only if you don't want to lose your house when you get sued over his accident.

OMG - of course, call your insurance agent RIGHT NOW and get him added to your policy!
