Americans. What cars do you normally have as your first Cars. As a cheap car with cheap insurance?

Car insurance in America is different than the UK. I got a quote for a Mustang in America for the same price as a Fiesta over here and I am 18!

I would imagine something like a Honda Civic or Ford Focus would be the equivalent of one of our little hatchbacks. Look on websites like Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Dodge, Honda, Toyota etc....(the American websites) and see what smaller cars they have.

It could be difficult insuring it and getting it road worthy over here though. Consider looking for used American cars on ebay to save the hassle of importing one over.

American cars are cool though, I love them! Especially the licence plates.

Do not get a Volkswagen. I bought one as my second car and it has caused me nothing but problems in the 5 years I have owned it (very expensive repairs, stalls when it rains). Typically, a Dodge or a Chevrolet will last a very long time, and the repairs are less than import vehicles. Toyotas also last a long time, although they cost more than the others.

However, if I lived overseas, I would not import a vehicle. There are plenty of good choices there already without importing a vehicle that, if a part is needed, will cost more than usual to repair.

I had a ten-year old Toyota Corolla. It was a cheap, piece of crap that probably only got me where I wanted to go 80% of the time. But it was cheap! That said, NO car is worth importing for a first car. That's wasted money.

When I was 16 my first car was a Nissan 300Z I paid around 35 for insurance a month. The car cost me $4000

I would say a v.w., that was my first car, and really cheap on insurance to.

It all depends on where you live. Kids in the city are stuck with crappy little 4 cylinder imports where as kids from more rural areas usually get pickups and 4x4s.

My first vehicle was a 1969 International Scout 800 half cab four cylinder 4x4 with a three speed on the floor. The insurance is close to my '03 Ford Ranger. ($45/month) I pulled the truck out of a barn on one of my family's farms. The truck itself was free and I spent about $500.00 to get it running properly. (Including a good set of tires)

The Volkswagen Getta and Honda Civic were the most popular at my old high school. I still ride a bike, but my brother's first car was a Nissan Sentra.

One who knows things

Call your insurance agent and give him a list of cars that you are interested in purchasing. They can and will (if they are a good agent) give you the cost that it would be to insure each auto and let you know which is the cheapest.
Person experience is that Saturn sedans do pretty well on insurance costs.
