Any advice to offer on car insurance?

If your 17 give or take 2 years, I highly suggest you and your parents go to whoever they have insurance thru. They can have your car attached to their policy. You can then just pay your parents the price difference. Talk with your folks on this. I'm sure they will be glad to help you out.

esurance. its the cheapest i have found. it cut my old insurance in half.

You are not going to have much of a "choice", as it'll be expensive no matter what.

Suggestion would be get as NON-sports car as you can that has 4 doors, but still economical to operate. As old as possible, but not old enough to be unreliable.

Your agent should be able to explain to you what are the minimum legal requirements, vs. how much you *should* buy. There is often a huge gap between the two that requires a bit of bridging.

are u from Canada....cause if are and under 25......good luck...public liability alone your looking at well over $1000 for 12 months. and even more depending on age make and model of your machine (hope u don't have a fancy sports car)

Avoid buying a Mustang as your first car. Or any other sports car. Avoid convertibles. Think what your grandma would drive. That will be cheapest for you. If possible, have dad add you to his insurance. Do not get any tickets. It will start high, you are an unknown after all. Enjoy your freedom.

Avoid sports cars of any kind, insurance on them is always higher. If your a guy and your under 25, your rates are going to be high anyway. Economy cars/trucks are the least expensive to insure. Try to get all the discounts that you can; you can get discounts at most Insurance Agencies for air bags, seat belts, all safety equipment on a car, good grades, Drivers Training, being in college, etc. Ask about them. Also if you are under the age of 25, see if your parents will add you to their policy and just pay them for your insurance every month. That way you'll get a multi-car discount also. It will be a lot cheaper than being on a policy by yourself. One more thing, if you only carry liability insurance (what's required by law) also get uninsured motorist added to your policy. This is great if someone with no insurance hits your car; your insurance company will pay for fixing your car and they will sue the uninsured driver to recover their money. This way you can get your car fixed right away instead of having to try to sue the uninsured driver yourself and wait on a settlement to fix your car. Good luck and drive safe.
