Brand new 18 year-old male driver. What are his chances of an accident or getting a traffic ticket?

My brother-in-law is about to get his driver's license. He is 18 and has little to no experience driving.
What are his chances of getting in an accident or getting a ticket?
If he is on my car insurance policy and is involved in an accident or gets a ticket, how badly can he hurt/raise my/my husband's insurance premium?

It depends on the kis some kids drive better than people that have been driving forever Get him an old car and tell him if he drives good he can get a better one I wouldnt judge by age

Depends on the type of person he is. Is he still acting like a kid, or does he show signs of responsibility? My son, who is 18 also, drives like crap. We've told him he has to get his own policy. He also did have an accident. Our policy went up, but not by a ton. Just alittle.

Statistically very high. Drivers under the age of 25 get the most tickets and are involved in the most accidents, which is why their rates are so much higher. And in that age group, males pay even more than females who are a little safer.

the premium will go up drastically just with him on there. Any claim will raise it even more of course. Why is he on your policy rather than his parents?

depends on whether or not he's responsible. If the kid speeds and blows stop signs, he's gonna get caught eventually. These things that you get ticketed for are illegal to prevent accidents. The more likely he is to get ticketed, the more likely he is to cause an accident, if that makes sense.

Basically, if you trust him to be responsible, do it. If you dont and the kid lives in the same household, he's gonna be covered under the policy anyway.
