It really depends on your state laws.

Usually if your purchased the car from a licensed dealer, they will do the paperwork when you purchase the vehicle to transfer your registration to the new car & provide you a temp registration to use until DMV mails you the new permanent registration card for your new car.

Some states give you a few days grace period, similar to what insurance companies give, so you are still legal as long as you have proof of purchase if you get stopped prior to completing the transfer at DMV.

And a few states have zero tolerance & you could be cited for driving an unregistered vehicle, incorrect registration or other charges.

It depends on the state you live in. Some states have a 3 day temporary transfer law, not knowing where you live makes it hard. but just call the dmv and they can let you know.

You are asking for trouble. You can get in big trouble for that. The plates you have are for another car.

Can't you go online and print out a temporary plate from your DMV website? That would be a lot cheaper than paying for the tickets and fines you would get for bad plates.

It sounds like you bought a car private party. Otherwise you would have a plate. I would make it a priority to get to the DMV today and register your car. What could be more important?

Not legally. The charges will be driving an unregistered car and misuse of plates if you get caught.
