If your car is paid for you can carry the minimum coverage required by the state you live in. If you cancel it, you may have a hard time getting reinsured or pay higher premiums when you return.

Insurance companies look for lapses in coverage when determining whether they will cover you and how much they will charge you.

ok you dont have to cancell it! well here at State Farm we go head and suspended the insurance until the person starts using the vehicle again. so dont cancel it just ask ur agent or broker if they can suspend it!

basically what suspension means is that you still have insurance its just that ur not using your car. so you dont get to make any payments until you start using it!

so call and find out!

If you cancel, you will have a lapse in your insurance which is not good and it will make you pay more later when you get coverage again.

The better option is to "suspend" the vehicle. This only gives the car comprehensive coverage, so the premium will be much less. When you get back reinstate the car and you will never have a lapse. Plus, if anything happens to you car while you are out of the country, it's covered less the comprehensive deductible. Just don't drive it until you get the insurance reinstated!!!

Of course you can cancel insurance. But if you do, you'll also have to turn in the plates, and not park it anywhere but private property. Also if anything happens to it, stolen, catches fire, gets hit, you are covered.

When you get back in 3 months you will be uninsured and therefore high risk when you apply for insurance.

If you are still making payments on the car, it has to have insurance...If the car is yours outright, you can put the put the car in storage and cancel the insurance...Check with both the motor vehicle dept and your insurance carrier to see what your best options might be.

If you cancel it and than come back, your insurance is going to skyrocket!

When your not on an insurance companies record for even one day, you're considered by insurance companies as having a lapse in coverage. This will put you back in a similar situation as when you first got your license. You remember how expensive that was?! It'll cost you more in the long run if you cancel it. You may be paying for not using it while you're gone, but at least it won't go up when you get home.

most insurance companies have a non use clause-still only lasts about 6 months-if its paid for then you can pay just liability

one thing you can try to do is just put fire and theft on it if your not planning on driving the veh. this way you dont have to cancel your policy but it will be a lot cheaper. Its always good to keep continuous insurance as if you have a lapse of insurance your rates can go up.

If you car is registered with the state it has to have insurance on it. If someone hits your car while it is parked, they are going to look for insurance on it.
