Can I drive an out of State Vehicle in Texas?

If I am a resident of Texas, is it ok for me to drive a car that is registered in Oregon? The Oregon registration doesn't expire until July of 2009. Can I legally drive it in Texas until the out of state registration expires? Or do I have to get it registered in Texas in order for it to be a legal vehicle?

Well, from my experiences; ive lived in texas my whole life, and when my uncle passed away recently i inherited his car. He lived in Arkansas, and the car was registered in araknsas. Apparently in Ark. you dont have to have a state inspection, and your registration is a part of your license plate, so i didnt have any stickers on the windshield at all. Of course i got pulled over a few times, but i just explained to the officer the situation, and hed just let me off. I think he said the rule of thumb is 2 weeks, once you get the vehicle you have 2 weeks (if the out of state tags are current) to tag and inspect it in texas, but if you tell the cop that youve only had the car for a week like i did he'll never know any different. If you are a resident of TX and own the vehicle registered in Oregon, then you would need to get TX plates on the car. If it belongs to someone else who lives in Oregon and you are using it for a short time with the owners permission, you wouldn't need to change registration. |

Check with your local dmv for car registration policy to be on the safe side.
On the other hand, it should be fine to drive it anywhere as long it is not reported stolen and you have proof of insurance. |
