Can I drive an uninsured car with my car insurance,which does cover me to drive any vehicle?

Hello

Yes as long as the car has current tax and MOT unless you are taking an un-MoOT'd one to MOT. However the car must be driven off private property when you start and when you park up. As you cannot park a car on the public highway with out it being insured. ie if you borrow a car to go shopping in carry on, if you are picking up a car for someone then it must be parked off public highway when you get back and remember you borrowed the car.

Also you will find that if you have Full Comp you will only be covered 3rd Party Fire and Theft on that car.

ChocLover is quite right, despite the multiple thumbs downs. The car must already be insured, and read your insurance details very closely. You will almost certainly find that it specifies "in an emergency" only. And you would only have third party cover.

The insurance companies have become used to this, mostly because of little Johhny with his Corsa insurance trying to drive daddy's Ferrari.

Even though you have insurance which covers you to drive any car with the owners permission the car still needs to be insured by the owner before you can legally drive it.

No definitely not. The car you drive has to have a valid insurance policy on it. It matters not that your policy allows you to drive another car.

The answer is yes. It is the driver who is insured not the car, however you will be insured 3rd party only and the car must have an MOT certificate

Yes you can but your insurance only covers you for the very minimum of cover, If you damage the car it will not pay out, even for fire.. it only covers you for damage you cause to a third party.

Your insurance covers you for liability shortfalls for an accident you have with a borrowed vehicle. If does not replace the insurance on that vehicle, so, if there is no insurance on it, you cannot drive it and be covered.

If you are led to believe the car is insured, such as being shown a certificate that looks current, and find out later it is not, your liability covers, however, if you knowing drive the vehicle that has no cover, your insurance may pay for damage you do (not to the vehicle you are driving), then sue you for the payout, based on you knowingly violating the law and driving the uninsured vehicle.

In the USA, most policy's will cover you if you drive another uninsured vehicle with permission. Such as trying out a used car for sale that does not have insurance on it. Most require that your insured vehicle be parked when driving the uninsured vehicle. The above may not be true in all USA states though so it is best to call your agent and inquire.
