Can I drive out of state with a learner's permit?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can I drive out of state with a learner's permit?

I am 15 and have a learner's permit. Doesn't this apply to full faith and credit clause? For example, if you were married at a young age in one state, and traveled to another that didn't allow marriage at that age, you would still be married. That seems like a similar scenario this one. So, couldn't you still drive out of state with a learner's permit, although the state you are traveling to does not allow a learner's permit at that age?

I know that if the state has the same age limit, you can still drive. If its different, no clue.

Same situation I went through recently.

One can not drive any where with a learner's permit except a fully license driver is in the front seat with him or her. That goes for any state. So what you are saying and wanting to do will not fly without that adult with you and most time with a learner's permit there are restrictions on where and when you can drive anyway.

life is good
Check with your DMV (or MVA, depending on your state's terminology) and find out for sure. With a learner's permit, though, you are supposed to have a licensed driver over the age of 21 with you at all times while driving, so just have your "chaperone" take over driving when you cross state lines if it's an issue.

Colin
Most states allow it, as long as you're supervised. Check with your insurance agency or license issuer to make sure

Regardless of what state you drive in, you still need a licensed drive in the seat next to you.

you still need an adult. and the car you drive needs to be registered from the state you live, same w/ your permit.

Depends on the that's states law on learner's permit. For example, if I have a permit from Illinois I can only drive in the states touching Illinois. Hope that helps.

Carol
If you violate the state's law in the state that you are visiting and you are IN that certain state. If they get you, they will definitly do what they got to.

And yes,you need a legal adult with a valid license next to you.

You might want to be careful and check that.

Bob
As long as someone with a driver's license is supervising you - you can leave your state and travel to a state which does not issue learner's permits to people your age.

Put it another way, you have your state's license plates on your car? Why should another state interfere as long as you are obeying the traffic laws of that state. Even if you were pulled over, the police officer would find out that your state allows you to drive supervised.

does your new marriage mate have a drivers licence, if so you will be alright unless you are stopped by a policeman

xidontwanttotalkaboutitx
Yes, the state has issued a permit which is a license except for the fact that you can't drive by yourself. It is used as a form of identitification in places like airports and such all over the country.

if you have an adult with you with a valid licence then yes you can drive legaly outta state

As long as you have a 18+ year old with you it's OK.

Peedlepup
NO, NO, NO. A "learners permit" is ONLY valid in the state that issues it. It's shocking how many people don't seem to know that.

hey if you were my 15 year old you wouldn't be driving out of town for anything. i'll do all the driving out of town. around town hey you can drive all you want as long as there is and adul present.

Absolutely.
You don't need anyone's permission, not mine, theirs, so
run out to the vehicle and start moving out of state. Savor
repeating your deduction to the first sworn officer of the law
that asks to see your state license. Just imagine the look
of amazement that will come upon realizing how clever the
speaker is to have figured this out at the age of 15. Yep.
Lawmen in two states will be talking about how smart you are in their doughnut shop stops for years to come. So, um, why
do you think they'll be slapping their butts and snorting with
evil laughter at the same time?
