Find answers to your legal question.

Can I drive with my friends car with my drivers license but no insurense?

I just got a license ,and my friend is letting me use his car.
Is it legal to drive it if I dont have insurance ,but he has the vehicle insured on his name ?

Insurance goes with vehicles, not with drivers. If you have his permission to drive, you are covered under his insurance.

It's legal to drive it, but if you were to get in an accident it may not be covered by the experience.

For instance:
I lent my car to my friend who has her license.. she totaled my car and the insurance company didn't want to cover it because she wasn't on my policy!

That is a complicated answer because there is no general or 1 answer.
Every automobile insurance policy is different. Tailored to the insured's needs.
For example, My auto policy covers any licensed driver that I allow to drive my vechicle as long as they are over the age of 25. If someone under 25 drives my vehicle, they are not covered and the insurance co will seek any and all damages.

In other situations, the policy could be void all together and not cover any damages. In that case I would be comming after the driver for damages.

Other companies policies may cover or not cover teen drivers but you would have to check with the owner and their individual policy. You also might want to have some proof that you were allowed to drive the vehicle. If you wreck it and have no legal proof, the vehicle could be reported stolen and that would open up even more litigation and problems.

Good Luck!

As long as you have the proof that the car has insurance, im sure u are ok.

In most states, its a matter of agency. If you borrow the car for your purposes, though you might not be cited for lack of insurance, his insurance company could come after you for any claims they pay. If you are acting on his behalf, as his agent, they should cover you.

Insurance usually follows the vehicle. If you get in an accident with their vehicle most companies will cover it under permissive use. But again, each companies regulations are different and I would recommend your friend read their definitions page, especially under 'insured persons'. Most policies have wording such as "an insured person is any resident relative or someone using your vehicle with permission." But there are exceptions. I have seen a couple policies try to write out permissive use, which I think is assinine. Just check the wording and if you don't have your answer there ask the friend to call their agent and/or the claims office to see what they state. Most of the time they will at least cover it for that accident. If there is some kind of indication that you are a regular user of your friends car they may force your friend to put you on the policy. But since this doesn't sound like you are using this car for regular use my guess is you will be covered. But it is always best to double check her policy wording. Also, some people only have operator only policies. I doubt this is the case, but if she has an operator only policy you wouldn't be covered.

Yes. You wont get in trouble for driving since you have a license. However, dont get into an accident. His insurance may not cover you if you were injured. In other words, the car would get the coverage for damages but not you. Knowing that, i'm sure your friend must trust your driving abilities.
