Can I get an emissions test in another state?

I currently go to school in Nebraska, but I live in Colorado. My temp tags are about to expire and I need to get a vin verification and emissions test before I can register the car. The next time I will be back in Colorado will be fore summer break. Can I get an emissions test and Vin verification in Nebraska and have it work for Colorado? Or am I going to have to drive to Colorado for 2 days to get it done? Any suggestions? Help!

An Emission or safety Inspection is only valid In the State It is performed in. You will have to go to Colorado. Sorry. The only time you can or could do something like that Is if you where already registered and your driving out of state and your inspection expires. It is allowed BUT not excepted in your home state. It is only so the other states cops don't give you a ticket. As soon as you get back to the state the car is registered in you must get the vehicle tested. As far as the "Vin Verification" that has to be done by the State Police in the state you plan on registering your car. It's to make sure you don't slip in a stolen car. In most states its the State Police.

You need to compare the emissions standards for the two states to see if the ones for Nebraska equal or exceed those for Colorado. Try a Google search for "Vehicle emissions standards for Colorado" and then one for Nebraska. Print each table of values and then compare them. If the result is in your favor, then you have to phone an official office in Colorado to see if they will accept the Nebraska test results. Or, you could just make the phonecall without doing the search. Same for the VIN verification.

most of the time you have to have it tested in the county that you live in but you should call your dmv
