Can I get this insured?

Can I get a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit II (6.8L / 6750cc 120mph) insured for myself at age 17 on a UK full license? If I cant, could my mum who is a qualified driver for over 20 years get insured for it (she got a quote for £600 per year) and sort of split the insurance to me as well so that we can both use it?

I meant as a sort of named driver, will they let me use it as well as her? Or do I need to insure for myself which is impossible...

If I was allowed to drive it and if i crashed she had to pay (lol) would they do this?O r is this fronting?

All you can do is ask the insurance company, but I'd be surprised if you could. Insuring it in mum's name if you're the main driver is called "fronting", and the companies are wise to it.

You'd want to get classic car insurance, even if its a fairly recent example, probably give you limited mileage cover.

your mum could certainly insure with you as a named driver, but if you are found to be main driver you could both end up in the s**t. How much extra it would cost to add you is another question. And how much the excess would be.

If you can afford the petrol, then you can probably afford the insurance.

If its for a special occasion the there are companys that insure by the day, week, month.
I looked at this for my son as a learner, 1700 pounds to add him as a named driver, but I coul insure him for a month for about 150 quid so he'd have to learn pretty quick....

No chance of you getting insured at the age of 17 as they are insurance group 20 (the highest you can get), the same as a Bugatti Veyron!

If you do find an insurance company expect to be paying in excess of Â£20,000 per year.

Why would you be willing to pay 8200 for a 6.8 litre car at 17?

If its speed that your after dont bother with that as they are really slow and handle like a wagon. 215bhp@2.4 ton thats 91bhp per ton.

Why not get a small car (Corsa, Clio), or if you are not happy with that get a Vectra or a Mondeo or something. A 2.0 vectra is 136bhp@1.4 ton is 98bhp per ton and only a insurance group 11 or 12 depending on the model.

Also think of the fuel that you would be saving:

Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit II - 10 mpg combined
Vectra 2.0 - 35 mpg combined
