Can I lessen my ticket? How will it affect my insurance?

Recently I received my first speeding ticket. I have only had my license a short time. I'm currently on State Farm's Steer Clear program, receiving their good student discount as well.

The night I got the ticket, I was in the midst of an anxiety attack and hoped to calm myself by driving. I pressed on the break to begin slowing milliseconds before the cop flashed his lights pulled me over.

The fine was $280 which I can pay. I'm much more worried of the affects on the insurance prices, and know very little of these sorts of situations. Any help would be appreciated.

I looked it up, I guess at the speed I was going it's worth 6 pts..

You can probably "plead down" the offense to a lesser charge. You don't say how much you were over the limit, but if you can get it down to within, say, five or ten miles above the limit, you will have fewer points on your license, as well as pay a lower fine. It is this figure which is reported to the insurance companies.

For traffic court, all defendants are given the opportunity to talk to the prosecutor to plead to a lesser charge on the day of court. I recommend you take this route and see what you can do.

Plead NOT GUILTY & cancel your date when you get it. Then cancel the next date or postpone I mean. Then go to court on the 3rd date; by that time the cop would have forgotten about it & won't show up if your lucky!!! If it's near a holiday, like a Fri. before a Holiday, 9 time out of 10, the cop won't be there! (I learned that from a lawyer) Or you can pay a lawyer about 500. to represent you, & he will get it cut down.

Anything less than 6 points on your lic. would help with the ins.; but don't get 2 speeders in row!!!!

They are the ones who will process your ticket and will know all the laws and regulation. You should also ask the courts if you are allowed to take a driving school class. This will prevent your insurance from going up and points from being placed on your license. Just make sure you get the courts permission before doing so. If you don’t the courts will reject your driving school certificate. Good luck!

You can compare how the insurance quotes would change, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net

There is an awesome website that I use that will actually pay your speeding ticket for you. What happens is that if you get a ticket or any kind of moving violation, you report it online and mail them the ticket. There is a $5.00 deductable and then we pay the ticket for you. You can sign up for a plan right on their site and it is anywhere from $150.00 to $450.00 per year and you are allowed 2 free tickets from them. Check it out at AutoViolations.com. Your ticket you have just received will not be covered because according to their policy you have to be ticket-free form 10 days, BUT IT WILL WORK FOR FUTURE TICKETS YOU RECEIVE. Good luck.
