Can I let my friend drive my car?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can I let my friend drive my car?

I am wondering because only my name is listed in the insurance policy. What is going to happen if he happened to crash?
Additional Details
This isn't about if I trust him or not. I just want to know if the insurance will cover him in an accident.

Actually, it depends on your policy. some policies cover permissive use and some dont. You should really call your agent or insurance company and ask this question. Be sure to take notes of what was said and who said it in case you have any problems later!!

As long as he is not listed as an excluded driver on your policy he is covered as a permissive driver.

yea you can let your friend drive your car, if he happened to crash he would just have to pay the damage instead of you.

Well, his ins may cover him driving another vehicle, so that is another thing to check out. But if his doesn't and he cant afford to pay to replace your vehicle and any thing or anyone that may be hurt or damaged then that would be .....................................Hec... No!

only if he/she is a licensed driver with an insurance policy of their own. Who cares about damaging the car----when you have to worry about the liability. You are both over 18?. Most States, state that the DRIVER, not the car needs to be insured

ahh no dont let him, he isnt insured.

I think in most states and insurance policies, as long as your friend is a licensed driver, it is legal for them to borrow your car.

Most automobile insurance policies cover the person named in the policy, that person's spouse and immediate family members, and anyone that person allows to drive the vehicle. Obviously, the person given permission would need to have a driver's license to be covered. Also, there could be an age limit.

The way that coverage continues to work even when loaning your car works like this: "Liability and coverage for physical damage follows your car. So, if a friend borrows your car and has an accident, you're still protected. Plus, if the driver of your car is insured, his or her policy will also be available to cover the cost of damages and injuries."

never lend your car your money or your credit cards

if you have aaa

Only if its an occasional driver, but if something did happen - the insurance company will investigate and may deny the claim.

Better say than sorry, add 'em for a few days and take 'em off again.

I don't think you should I let my friend drive in my car for weeks before I found out most insurances are against it, when you pay your insurance you are paying for them to cover you not other person. I was told that some companies may even drop you if they think you may be a "higher liability" ($$$)... In the end it's up to you, but just think what will happen should anything happen.

WELL IWOULD GET A WRITTEN AGREEMENT THAT IF IT IS WRECKED HE PAYS FOR IT {IF U TRUST HIM} IF NOT DONT TAKE ACHANCE

not recomended
don,t do it, i have got my fine today for letting my friend drive my car, 200 pounds plus 6 points off the licence, the same for him, and this is the minimun penalty, only for driving, imagine in case of and accident. He/she should has an insurance too, there are companies which made car insurance per day. Anyway always check with your insurance company, there are different types of policies.
