Can I refuse to tell the repo people were my car is so they don't come get it?

They have called me and threaten me that they will go the legal way and etc. I am not telling them were I live. They are trying to figureout were I live so they can come and pickup the car. Do I get in any legal trouble for refusing to tell them were I live? Or by not telling them were they can pickup the car?

trust me, repo people will find your car so they'll get it one way or the other, it doesn't matter where your at, you could be at a friends house or at work and they take it, also doesn't matter what time of day or night either

I do not believe that you are under any obligation to provide information to them concerning its' location. The 'repo' people are looking for the easy way to find it. Rest assured that they will find you and vehicle, after all they have your telephone number. Information on the location of the number is available to them through the 'phone company. You can cooperate with them or not...however, I don't think that you're protecting your interest by being secretive...

They will find it. Trust me. You can't hide from the recovery company. If you are behind on your payments, pay up or call them and tell them to come get the car.

You are fighting a losing battle. Legality aside, you are not going to win this one. You do not own the vehicle and keep property that does not belong to you is against the law.

you are legally stealing the car as you never owned it. Until you pay it in full, the bank owns it. They will find it, you can't hide forever. Then the problem only gets worse.

Preventing a lender or their recovery agent from recovering property that is lawfully theirs is a crime in some states. You don't have a legal claim to the vehicle after you stopped making payments on it. Just let them take it.

Pay the car off, make the lender happy, get your title, and you you won't have to worry about repossession. If you can't or won't do that, it doesn't really matter what you do or don't tell them, they will eventually get the vehicle.

Can you get in legal trouble? Depends on the type of repossession and the laws for your location. In some keeping the legal owner from their property is considered theft, especially when the replevin method is used.

A "Writ of Replevin" is where the lender gets a court order signed by a judge for you to surrender the vehicle. It will be served by a Sheriff's officer, with the repo man in tow, and you will then have to let them take the car. Otherwise, you are in contempt and it is not worth it to defy a court order.

Most use 'self help' type, which means they find, and take the car, and deliver it to the legal owner.

What you would be doing is "concealing" the vehicle. Trust me, you DO NOT want to do this. When they do come to repo your car (and they WILL find you), the bank will take into account that you concealed the vehicle and will not allow you to reinstate the contract. It would be REDEEM only. You would have to pay the car completely off if you want to get it back.

my advice to u is to surrender the car if u havent made the payments.. if they come and find it to repo it.. they tack on like 2000. to the loan and then they sell the car and u wind up having to pay the remander.. so call them and ask where they want u to deliver it to . it will save u money .

Yes you can get in legal trouble. Legally, you do not own the car. The bank does. So your the one who's keeping something that not yours. At this point there is nothing you can do. The little choices you had months ago are long gone.

What if I keep the motorcycle in open sight and make no attempt to hide it, but I also don't take calls or have threatening conversations. I make it as easy for them to get the vehicle as possible, except they don't know where I live, I have a PO Box. They could go to the Post Office and get my address and that would be fine, then come and get the bike. I just don't want anything more to do with any of them, they can have the motorcycle. Is it still considered a felony if they aren't smart enough to find me and I make no attempt to hide, but also no attempt to be overtly obvious? Do they have to wait a certain period of time before this gets ugly? It's a motorcycle, and if they don't want to pick it up, I' ride it till they do and then walk away.
