Can I register a car with my mom's name on the Bill Of Sale in Georgia?

My mother wants to send me a used car as a gift. She liveS in NY and i'm in Georgia, But her name is on the Bill of Sale. She bought the car used from a neighbor and it did not come with a Title. If she sends me the car can I get it registered in GA with her name on the BOS or does it need to be switched over to me b4 I do anything? How would we go about switching anything with the DMV if we do not live in the same state?

u need a title.....cheapest way is to get the neighbor to get a duplicate title........have to have a NY title.....if u don't u might as well scrap the car...
BOS means nothing without title and u CANNOT title a vehicle with out a title signed over to u.......
** well u can but takes 120 days and about 500 bucks and a bunch of legal paper work.........
** duplicate title runs about 15-30 bucks in most places..... |

If the neighbor didn't give her a title, then it's not her car. She can't give it to you without a title, and you can't register it, without a title.
Ownership of vehicles, ONLY EVER passes, with a title.
So, she'd have to somehow title it first, then sign that title over to you.
It could be stolen, it could be a repo. But you won't find out, until you spend the money to TRY to bond the title, and get it in your name . . . after which, you're probably just going to be out the money. |
