Can I renew registration on car up for repo in Tx?

Long story short- Ex husband wrecked two of my paid for vehicles so when we seperated he signed a statement saying he would continue to pay the note on a vehicle he financed as long as I kept it insured and I have full use of it. I know he is often late in paying and I suspect the car may be on a repo list. My question is can I renew the registration in Tx ? I have 8 months until college graduation then this loser and the finance co can have the darn car. I have faithfully kept it insured but can I renew the registration in tx if its on a repo list?
