Can I sell my Car?

What a bind I have gotten myself into. I was convicted of a DUI so I lost my job and I am unable to keep up with the bills therefore I lost my insurance. Without insurance my vehicle registration was revoked. I don't drive the car I take the bus to work however I need money to help pay for bills till I get my driver's license back and can get a real job. My question is can I sell my car that has a clear title to a person or delarship without current registration????

You can sell it as long as the title is clear and in your name. Have you turned in the license plate yet? In SC if you have no insurance and did not turn in the plate then they can charge you $5.00 per day with a maximum of $400.00 for having a license plate on a car without insurance. You'd probably be better off selling the car to an individual then a dealership though, probably be able to get more money for it.

Yes. You only lost your vehicle tags, per se. The vehicle still belongs to you. The new owner will be able to tag it.

In my opinion, yes! you can sell your car to someone unless the title is under your name.Just sign the title transfering to the buyer. If your car has late registration then the buyer would pay a little penalty for late registration but if you have paid the non-opearation fee for your car then there would be no penalty charges for the new owner. you have to report to the DMV that you have sold your car. As long as you have the title, you can sell the car. You may have a bit of a problem selling it since a prospective buyer won't be able to test drive it on public roads.

Yes, you only need a title to sell a car! It could go 10 years without being registered, as long as you have the title your good!

Yes, but they will deduct the cost of getting the registration up to date. And you can get a current registration without a license by using a certificate of non operation. It was revoked only because you didn't fill out the non op form and pay it, not because you lost your insurance.
