For a start you have not indicated what type of truck you intend to tow with.If it is a rigid vehicle,towing is not a problem,but ,if it is a semi trailer rig ,then you cannot do it,unless you use unit only and either have the car on a trailer/low loader or a special towing dolly.You also do not say if the car is a runner or not drivable,if not drivable,it can be classed as a breakdown recovery and a dolly is then no problem with the highway patrol.The differing traffic regulations in the states you will traverse are also a consideration, as they can vary from state to state for one offs.Being a trucker you will not need any information on insurance and varying driving techniques on the running tackle,personally i would not sacrifice any payload for the run,just to tow a car,i would get a family member or friend to drive it with us both in convoy.GOOD LUCK WHATEVER YOU DECIDE. |

no, it has to be totally on the trailer...no tow dolly.
And remember, in many states if the car is registered, it must be insured. Even if you have the car up on blocks in your backyard- if its registered and not insured, you can get a ticket- unbelievable but true |

You can tow with an auto transport or tow dolly from Uhaul and get the extra insurance from them while you do the rental. The insurance is cheap and easy to do, they simply ask you if you want it, if you tell them yes, they make one click of the mouse and you have insurance - that easy - and A LOT cheaper then if you were to call an agent and put coverage on it just to move it. You're looking at probably less than $100 to cover the towed car. Your truck you want to haul with is a different story - Uhaul can't insure that...If you that was part of your original question. |

I agree with dave87 above. You can rent a car-hauler from U-Haul, and purchase with the rental insurance for the car ON the trailer. It's only a few bucks per day, but well worth it. |

YES you can! Ive gone out of state with tow dolleys and picked up cars and they werent and dont have to be registered/insured. It is however a good idea to use magnetic tow lights. |
