Taxi stopped on one way street, Saw free space and just reversed into it. No indication at all. As he stopped I applied handbrake and he hit me scraping paintwork on Bumper. Had claim yesterday that he has whiplash. Witnesses and me in Car had no injuries. Is this a scam and who can I report it to?

Here is more detail. I have a 2007 Citroen C3 with myself and 3 friends in. Taxi was 2008 Vauxhall Zafira with Taxi driver only. The one way street has a lane on the left which is Taxis only. Taxi came to stop suddenly. I had another Taxi and Car behind me so couldn't move backwards. Thought Taxi was picking someone up as so put handbrake on and waited to see what happens next. Taxi then reversed without turning his head around. I sounded horn and car stopped. Driver was quite irate with me so calmed him down and we exchanged addresses. Took names of witnesses and contacted my insurance company as soon as got home. Also took car to Citroen dealer who said scratch was hardly noticeable and typical of someone hitting a low bollard when parking. There is no dent in front bumper. Advised a bit of touch up paint and you won't even see damage. Asked if hitting another car at spped would cause this he said it was 'extremely unlikely'. Can I send his evidence to insurance company as well?

He can claim it, but it does not mean your insurance company will pay it since it does not appear you were legally liable for the accident. Your insurance company will determine if his injury is causally related to the accident. If they feel he is submitting a fraudulent claim, they will refer it to their Special Investigation Unit. You do not get involved other than cooperating with your insurance company. |

If he was reversing and hit you then he cannot claim off you.
Additionally if he was reversing he would not have been going fast enough to get whiplash.
Inform you insurance company and get your witness to complete a statement.
It looks like he is trying it on. |

He's at fault so you shouldn't have to worry about loosing your no claims on this one. Was the accident reported to the Police? If so, I'd suggest a "Driving without due care and attention" prosecution - that should make him think twice about trying to scam the insurance companies. |

It`s the problem with this country today, it is almost certainly a scam & there is Absolutely nothing that you can do. He will claim with one of those " lawyer companies", that advertises on daytime tv & will probably get money, because the front of your car went in the back of him. He ought to be ashamed of himself. |

Don't worry the insurance company will investigate and he doesn't have a leg to stand on. |

If it was his fault then he has no claim against you or your insurance. |

I don't really understand. You say your car was stationary, but after he reversed into a space, as he stopped, you applied your handbrake & he hit you.
Firstly, he didn't need to indicate whilst reversing, and why would you coincidentally apply the handbrake at the same time as HE stopped?
A bit more info please.
Regardless, every tosser claims for some personal injury whenever there's the slightest scrape on the roads - that's why we're all paying a bloody fortune for our insurance. That's life. |

Don't worry about his claim. It seems, from what you say, that this would never reach a payout stage. If he gets threatening, contact police as this might be viewed as 'attempting to demand money by deception. |
