Can a car insurance claim be filed without a police report?

Yes. Most claims are. Keep in mind that the law requires a police report for certain types of accidents (injury accidents and those that go over a certain threshold that varies from state to state). None, of these laws have any impact on your right to file a claim. They may, however, make it more difficult to settle the claim since there might not be 3rd party evidence of what happened.
Hope this helps. |

Yes. It's more helpful to have a police report, but not necessary.
Where I live, the police rarely come to an accident unless there is an injury. |

You should be able to although depending on the severity of the accident your insurance company might require a police investigation before they pay out any funds or deny them all together. Check with an insurance agent before you take any action at all. |

Yes you can put in a claim to your insurance company without a police report. More often than not the police don't come to minor accidents anyway. Did you have any independent witnesses to the accident then you can let your insurance company know there details. |

Depending on what happend. If someone side swiped you, you could tell the insurance that it happend when you were not there. I dont know what happend but you may also be able to claim Vandalism i.e. like a cracked windshield, and that does not require a police report. |

Normally If it is an accident which involves no thrid party injury or losses, likelihood you do not need to have a police report.
For example, a small pebble/ stone hit your wind shield and cracked it, just file the claim indicating the accident happened . |

YES but it might affect the way the carrier pays the claim! |

Yes. Think about for a moment, if you run down your mailbox, do you call the police or just the insurance company? Typically, the police kicks in with a multicar accident or vandilism/theft. |

in california you can file a claim without a police report...in fact in many places they will not come out to the scene of an accident unless there is a major injury.
The Dmv..requires a form that you fill out explaining what happened...(if someone is injured or over $750 damage) even if you don't have all of the details...you fill it out to the best of your knowledge. we always have people do the form...regardless of the money--750 comes quick.... |

Yes. HOWEVER- depending on the type of claim, if a report is not filed, you may not be entitled to certain coverages. For example, if you have a hit and run, and want to make an uninsured motorist claim, most states require a police report be filed in order to give you the coverage. Not sure why you'r asking, but you can file a claim with no report. What the insurance company then does without you having one is another thing |
