My uncle purchased a truck from a private seller but for some reason the seller doesn't want to give him the title to the truck. Is there another way that my uncle can obtain a title since he has already purchased the truck.

At least he has a "Bill of Sale" that protects him. "Title" must transfer (signed over) at time of purchase. Your uncle can take the "Bill of Sale" to the DMV where both parties signed and claim the seller could not locate "title". VIN must be shown on "Bill of Sale".
If there was no "Bill of Sale" the seller legally retains ownership. If this is the case no money and no physical acceptance of truck should have occurred.
Your uncle needs to immediately go back and get the "title" from the seller. |

It doesn't matter if you buy a car for a million dollars or one penny, if you don't have the title it doesn't belong to you. He NEEDS the title. He is being seriously ripped off. That person could report the car stolen and as far as the law is concerned it still belongs to the previous owner. Also, your uncle will not be able to get insurance without having his name on the title. He needs to get it IMMEDIATELY. He is setting himself up for risk or hassle. It's not just having a copy of the title, he can get that easy, but he needs the seller to sign the car over to him. The only reason I can think of for someone not wanting to give the title is because they don't have it, maybe because they stole the car......was this deal to good to be true??? |

Most states will not allow the vehicle to be registered without the title. Call your local DMV for additional information. Best of luck. |

The title is proof of ownership. Your Uncle needs the title to get the vehicle transferred into his name. Until he has completed this, he does not own the vehicle. |

Try your local court house, if that doesn't work go to the police station and explain the situation and they will be able to help. |

If there is a way to obtain a title for that truck will be very (very)difficult. The seller should have never sold the truck without the title. That truck could be reposed, leased, financed, stolen for all you know and with out a title your uncle won't be able to put it on his name and he shouldn't drive it. He needs to talk to the seller and get the title or his money back. |

Nope. he had to take the title from the seller and go to a tag notary place to transfer the title and pay tax on the sale of the vehicle.
He may have a stolen vehicle or this person may not even have the title and may have a lien against the vehicle (may be financed through the bank and they're holding the title. until the debt is paid).
He needs to contact the seller and ask for a refund or the title. If he has lost the title, the seller needs to pay for the title to be re-issued in his name and have him and your uncle transfer and register the title at a tag place. |
