go to the post office, get the form. The form has a circle on the front which you stick the tax disc to. Send this to the DVLA and when they can be bothered they will send you a cheque as a refund for the remaining months.

assassin
cannot transfer but you can get a refund for each complete month if you get a form from the post office and send it and tax disc to DVLA

It can't be transferred.
However, you can surrender it, and get a refund for all full remaining months (i.e. if you cash it in on 30th December you'll get a refund for January plus all months after, but if you cash it in on 1st Jan you'll on get a refund for February and the months after).
However, you need a good reason to surrender it (such as declaring SORN).

you can apply for a refund on your tax disc but cannot transfer it

Complete months can be cashed in via a form at the post office xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You need to get the forms from the Post Office or you local DVLA office.

Remember though that you can't cash in the current month, even if its the first, and they 'charge' a month's tax as a penalty for cashing it in. Thus if your tax expires at the end of January 2007, you'd get nothing.

You need a form from the Post Office to be able to cash the Tax Disc in. You can not transfer it directly from one vehicle to another.

You need to get a license surrender form and send it to the DVLA

You can get a form from the post office to send the tax disc back to the DVLA, however you cannot transfer if to another vehicle. They will only refund for a full month not part of. So make sure the "other" vehicle has an up to date disc so you don't get fined!

You can get a refund for the tax disc:

yes but you will need to go to the post office and get the reqiured forms

A disc cannot be transferred but it can be cashed in in certain cases. If you sell the vehicle without tax disc in the price for example, or you scrap the vehicle, or no longer use it on the road, you can apply for a refund of road licence for the remaining period left on the disc. They will only do full months though as increments, so for example if your tax was due for renewal at the end of March 2007 and you wanted a refund now, you would only get a refund for January, February and March and not December, as it is already halfway through this month. Forms for doing it are available from the Post Office and they will help you with filling it in if you ask them.
