Can an car insurance company deny coverage if the driver doesn't wear seat belts?

Say if you let your friend drive your car and he get's in an accident. Can you car insurance company say that the insurance coverage didn't count because your friend didn't have seat belts on? Thx.

No, they can't.

I'm sure they can... but i dont think most do. =/ My friend had someone else driving his car and they got into a major accident but my friends insurance still covered it...but gave a warning..so im assuming ud be good.

If he/she were injured, the insurance company could possible make a case that their injuries were partly their own fault due to their own negligence, but that would not have any impact on anything else.

Good rule though - unless it's an emergency, don't let anyone else drive your car.

some insurance companys can deny coverage if it is proven that you werent wearing your seat belt. i know mine does. its just a good habit to get in. it took me awhile
