If you think we enjoy having to pay for uninsured Bozos like yourself who think we don't mind losing our inverstments, think again! Liability insurance protects the general public from your mistakes. In some states you can be jailed for failure to provide financial responsibility. You're a fool to think that you won't be prosecuted, or even sued. As for corporate America screwing us, no, they aren't. What the insurance laws are doing is to help those of us who have the nice cars to keep them as nice as possible. If you can't afford insurance, how the hell can you afford to drive? Furthermore, how can you justify paying for a funeral when you hit someone and kill them? Can you afford to work for the rest of your life just to pay off a judgement and a garnishment after the lawsuit? Not me! I think "no-fault" insurance should be the law of the land, with a provision for drivers with too many points on their records to be required to carry liablility insurance. However, until the states all agree on that, we'll keep paying for the cheap-skates who won't keep your insurance current. If you are cancelled more than three times in a two-yer period, I think insurance companies should require you to pay for a year in advance so that you will continue to have your insurance. Some states require insurance companies to notify the states when a car's insurance policy is cancelled or expires. If you are required to carry an SR-22 form then your state will, indeed, be notified by law. If you don't have a car and can prove it (no car registered to yourself) then you may file for an exemption form in order to keep your license. However, you must then be sure that whoever owns the car you're driving has valid insurance, or you will be back in the same boat again.

In California, the insurance companies automatically report to the DMV electronically when you renew or cancel your insurance. This is done equally for everyone in the state. I don't know where you are from, but many states now use this method to make sure that the problem of uninsured motorists is resolved. The law is clear that if you are going to drive you must have insurance. That is mandated as much as having a driving license and is part of being a responsible driver.

Yes they can and yes they will. Insurance companies are required to report dropped coverage to the DMV of your state.

If you want to drive dropping your insurance shouldn't be an option. People that do are the reason the rest of us have to be outlandish premiums every year.

It's a new law here in California. I don't know about other states. Just another way corporate America is screwing us over!
