Drive like a Frenchman. Be brave, and pray hard to whatever God you believe in!

Do not drive on the left hand side of the road. The French take a very dim view of it

Type 'driving in France ' into the yahoo search box and the first site on the list will give you loads of info. I would say from my own experience - be especially careful when setting off in your car after a stop, because that's when it's easy to forget that you should be on the right hand side of the road. Bonne route!

Get eyes in the back of your head, they are lunatics on the road.

This should prove helpful :-http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/touring_tips/AA_France_Monaco.pdf

It's handy to stick a note on the steering wheel to remind you to drive on the right after a break - easily forgotten! Be VERY careful about overtaking and don't take your passenger's word for it - hang back much further so you can see ahead past the vehicle in front.

The only vastly different thing is the “priorité a droite” and French farmers who consider it still applies in country areas, plus the different rules on roundabouts.

And if you value your sanity (and bodywork) stay away from the Champs Elysee and the Arc de Triomphe in Paris - it's fascinating to watch the traffic around there from the safety of a pavement, but no closer . . .

Bonne chance.

its great i do it regularly for delivery's, driving on the right isn't that bad and you will soon pick it up, the roads are well sign posted and the motorways are far better than the UK as there is a lot less traffic and rarely any congestion, the service stations are fantastic lovely grub at a good price and you will find most people friendly and polite, the only dodgy bit is if your driving near the big city's, Paris for instance, the Arc De Triumph is totally mad to drive around and its a case of shut your eyes and just go for it don't hesitate, once you get use to driving over there you will love it its so much better than here, no traffic no soggy wet sarnies from the over priced garage, its just beautiful scenery and poodle along at your own pace, they will know your a brit form your plates and hopefully give you a bit more time, but don't bank on it they can be a little impatient in the city's

good luck

forgot to mention if your going on the car ferry then Norfolk line is the one to go for it has the newest boats, best food and its clean, P&O are a liitle pricey and sea france is the worst bad food and dirty boats

Drive on the right!

Plan ahead, drive carefully, watch out for traffic dashing in from the right. Fit headlamp thingies to block the left hand dipped beam and watch your speed. On toll roads you can be clocked between toll booths and made to pay instant fine. Same for no seat belt (driver always pays!) and most minor offences. Take a look at http://www.drivingabroad.co.uk/content.aspx?page=Home&navid=1

Be very careful within the first 3 miles as your brain will wander to the keep left rule of Britain. Use all mirrors all the time and always look twice when changing direction or lanes. Follow the road markings as they are very helpful as to are the signs at junctions. When joining a road after a petrol stop or toilet etc, on an ordinary road. Stop and think which side you are headed for as this is where errors often occur.(motorways are easy). Do not be sloppy about using traffic indicators as a lot of people are at home as this helps the following drivers to at least know what your intentions are. Do not rely on the blue bit of EC plate on your number plate. Get two stick on type GB plates for the rear of your car and then the following driver will have no excuse if he misunderstands you. If you can get one with a flashing light then put that on.
Enjoy yourself and have a happy New Year.
