I'm a cop in training and I'll you this...we don't use our radar guns to catch a vehcle if we are moving as well unless we have on mounted to the dash...If we see some one that looks like they are speeding we will stay with them, sometimes in a way you won't notice us, but will pace our car with yours and read your speed from our speedometer...like you were doing 85 in a 65 we will sit on you from a couple of car lengths back and keep a steady pace with your car and that's how we get you while we are moving as well...

And it really makes them mad too! Because if your doing 85 they have to go 100 to catch up to you. The modern patrol cruser has global posistioning telecommunations and computers on board. Foward and rearward facing radar and cameras. And even mile markers on the road simple stop watch is all it takes 60 second mile anything less ticket time.

The Police vehicles are fitted with different types of speed checking devices. Some have a mobile Gatso camera. This takes your picture when you pass them, the Police vehicle speed is taken in to account by computer and it works out your speed as you pass them. These are usually in unmarked cars. Another unit works out you speed thus, one switch on as you pass a land mark (ie a lamp post) another switch on as they pass it. Then both switches off as you both pass another land mark. This records your distance travelled over a time period. DistanceXtime=speed. The last and most probable is following you at an even pace and comparing your speed to the speedometer in the Police car. Traffic cars and unmarked cars may have callibrated speedometers showin true speed. Panda cars will not. If the Officer was on his own he will use the equipment to crroborate his evidence, not sound for him, but if there we two of them in the car they can corroborate each other and sorry, but your sunk

They will clock you with radar and also check with what they call pacing. Keeping up with your steady speed.

if they are behind you, they will pace you using their speedometer. they can use radar if your in front but it works best when your opposing them

Absolutely, and radar has nothing to do with it. Most police cars have certified and calibrated speedometers. All he needs to do is match your speed (pace you) and read it right off the speedometer. He can also find a known check point, like the sign that says "Exit 142, 1/2 mile" and use the stop watch routine.

If you spot him, and slow down, he can still tell with a formula using distance from the time he spotted you until the time it takes him to catch up with you, although that's most often used when he has to turn around to get you.
