Can i apply for the log book of the car if the owner did not include it in the sale of the car.?

brought a car with no log book as the owner wanted to keep it to transfer the id onto another vehicle. am i legally allowed to apply for the log book? i have a reciept for the purchase of the car.

the guy who sold me the car actually only sold me the shell of the car i.e no engine or running gear which he kept himself. he transferred all the part and the id of the shell he sold me to another car, in my eyes i have the original with chassis number and his would be the ringer, he did this however beause the original car was left hand drive and he wanted a right hand drive but need the original id so that his 'new' car was able to race in a particular race!. but where does this leave me as i have put a new engine etc into the shell and want the car on the road.???????

Get a form from the Post office and send it off to the DVLA or ring the DVLA and they will help

There is one born every minute! You own neither the car or the log book. You have bought a piece of very expensive paper. What you own is a lump of scrap that should be in the scrap yard. Contact the 'owner' and demand the log book. If he refuses then visit your local police station, inform them of the situation and contact the DVL in Swansea.

yes, you will need to fill in a form at the post office and send it to dvla.

WHAT !!!!!!! the seller wanted to keep hold of the logbook for the vehicle you have purchased to transfer the details on to another vehicle have i read that corrrectly are you aware that this is a totally illegal act each logbook is a thumbprint for one vehicle only you cannot have 2 identities for the same vehicle how on earth would you ever tell them apart this is what is called ringing it is a tactic that car thieves use to prevent vehicles being traced that they have used for the purposes of crime when you purchase any vehicle you should receive the logbook with it or at very least the v5 which is the little tear off strip at the botton to prove the vehicle has been legally sold or scrapped and that a change of keeper has taken place i could be wrong but i have a terrible feeling that your details are going to be put onto a vehicle that is going to be used in some sort of crime and the police will have your details on record for that vehicle if i were you i would contact the person you have purchased this vehicle from and ask for a full refund as you have changed your mind and i would inform the police immediately sounds suspiciously like to me you have been scammed sorry i do hope that i am proved wrong good luck hope this helps

im surprised you even entered into this sale if im perfectly honest this whole thing sounds very dodgy and highly illegal to me

Oh dear, you've just bought a scrap shell. Sounds dubious in the extreme. If what you say is true, I'd contact DVLA pdq, though I don't hold out much hope for you I'm afraid.

Never never ever buy a car without the log book i would get yourself in touch with your local police this car is either stolen or a ringer bad move mate
