Can i do this?

There is a Nissan 300ZX a few blocks away from where i live and i think its abandoned. Ive seen this car sitting there for awhile maybe longer than i know cuz the tires are flat and i know they arent sliced. The funny thing is its not even on park and the registration isnt on it is it possible for me to claim it for myself? i have so many ideas for it and it would be a good first car..

i have seen that car just sitting there doing nothing a nice car like that needs some speed!!! its been already a year i have seen it just sitting there.

All three answers are correct. If you know someone on the police department and have it towed, and wait for a police auction you might get it cheap.

Generally speaking, unless it is abandoned on property you own, no, you can't.

That is stealing even if it is abandoned because it will be property of the city if nobody claims it.

Its a possibility that someone in the neighborhood owns it but wants nothing to do with it. Try asking around the neighborhood and maybe you could buy it, or maybe the owner would just give it to you, I acquired a free car by doing exactly that! And then if nobody claims it its obviously abandoned and then I would ask the authorities about how you would possibly "claim" the vehicle? Anything is possible? You never know until you ask!

No, you can't pick it up and claim it. It would be considered stealing, if it's not already a stolen and abandoned.

However, you can call the police and report the car as abandoned. They'll run the VIN and registeration - if it's clean and it's not stolen, then the policy will put it up in an auction. Once on auction, you'll be able to purchase it.

You have no way of obtaining the title for the car, so no, you can't do that.

Is the vehicle in front of a home? Is the home inhabited? If so, you could ask if they are the owner, or do they know. If they are and choose to deal with you, you could probably work something out. If there is no building nearby, it's on a public roadway, chances are slim that you could gain ownership. It probably is stolen and dumped, or someone didn't want it and dumped it, either way, your only option is to get the VIN and take it to the DMV to see if it is stolen or not. Depending on what's on record, it may be possible to file for an abandonded title. You'll need to work with the Public Disclosure agency also.

Have you thought about putting a note on the windshield offering to buy it or tow it away for cheap/in exchange for the title?
