YES U CAN....uk,at one time police would issue you a ticket for not displaying a tax disc.reason was that in the eyes of the law if you car isn't displaying a tax disc then it isn't taxed...this no longer applies..this was before the introduction of the ANPR system..any police officer can find out with in 20 seconds if a car is taxed....this came from a police mans mouth as he checked online if my car was taxed,i did it the night before so legally i was covered..

Q
I believe under new rules once you have applied and paid for your tax you have 5 days to display your tax.
But carry your online receipt in case.

yes you can i bought mine online and it says you can, it will be on the computer system that you are covered just display it as soon as you get it

Victoria is right, when you retax you have the proof of purchase through you payment over the net by asking for a receipt.

The rules have changed recently. If you prefer to tax in the last few days of the month, there is now an exemption from the offence of not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month and allows time for the new disc to arrive in the post.

The exemption applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.

Yes you can drive, you can't get points for no tax and if the police did pull you they would be able to tell if you have a valid tax or not, they has access to to the DVLA data base, they wouldn't do you for not displaying it..

Hi there, If you go back to the site where you bought your tax, you will be able to read the "faq's" and 1 of them is the same as yours. Just recently the law was changed so that anyone using the online system to buy road tax, they now have 5 days grace, that means that from the date of purchase the expect the tax to arrive by post quick enough so that you can display the tax on your vehicle before the 5 days are over.
Cheers

You may have payed the tax, however, you are still 'failing to display a current exise disc'. This is an offence. Better to go into a post office and pay your pennies. That way if your 'paperwork' is OK, you walk out with a disc. Of course, it's illegal to drive to the post office!

I don't know where people get their info from, the law says you MUST display a valid vehicle excise license if the vehicle is kept or used on a public road. There has been no change on this. They are confusing matters with a postal backlog at DVLA, where they will not prosecute if the failure to display is because of the backlog.

The Police do not have access to current tax info, only access to markers on vehicles indicating that it has previously been seen on a road untaxed.

In short, if you need it quickly, buy it in person. If your tax expired 5 days ago, and you ordered your tax before then, you will be okay to use the vehicle, but I would carry proof of the transaction.

Well we have done it once BUT we never got caught. It is an offence to not display but I dont know the legalities of if the police pull you and you have no disc on show and they then check with dvla. Best not to eh.

Michael
NO
excise duty has to be displayed
as in an offence if not displayed

It's a legal requirement to display so no,you will have to wait..................

You have to display the disc,
it is illegal not to display it.
