I have a car which has messed up on me, my mate said I can use his car but its not insured. I am insured on my car (only third party fire and theft) so will I be covered to drive his car?

simple answer is no you cant. however, just a phone call will transfer your insurance over to his vehicle and save you loads of hassle. |

You can only drive another persons car if you have fully comp insurance that allows you to drive another car and if the other car is insured and road worthy.

Very doubtful.
Even if you were fully comp. These days a lot of insurance companies are dropping the "drive any other car" piece of their policies and most of them would not have had that for tp&f anyway.

check out your insurance policy but I'm pretty certain you wont be, it's a common miconception that you can drive on fully comp ins but you can only do this if it states on the policy. Basically your car is only covered for certain occurances but you are not insured to drive any car so you should get it insured or talk to your insurance company about it ok. |

You can easily transfer your insurance to your mate's car, just phone your insurance company and they will arrange it for you. |

You'll have to check your own insurance policy terms, this is usually a booklet sent out with your cover note.
Most insurance companies only offer this as part of fully comprehensive insurance and also require the other car to be fully insured as well. |

No, if you were fully comp you would have 3rd party cover on another car. You are 3rd party on your motor so you are not covered. |

nope; car needs insurance. your liability may well follow you, but an uninsured car will net you a citation. and you probably can't insure his car on your policy; it;s not in your name (insurable interest), and if you can, you may need to add him as a driver, too. call your agent! |
