Find answers to your legal question.

Can i have passengers in the back of my car while im learning to drive?

Jim
Based on UK law, yes,but only if the passenger in the front seat is instructing you. In other words they have to have a full licence and officially be in charge.
A few months before my wife was to take her test, she nearly always drove (to gain experience/confidence) and we carried passengers. I seldom had to make any comment, but I was there to advise/instruct.
Good luck when you get to take your test.

it is not illegal atall the only thing is the person sat in the front seat has to have had a full license for 3 years at least

yes, when I was learning with a qualified instructor she asked if I wanted to bring my mum along so yes you can. Ask your instructor though

Probably not. They are a distraction.

Petra
Yes as long as you have a legal licensed driver in the front.

In the UK you most certainly can, as long as the person in the seat beside you has had a valid full car licence for three years and is over 21. Probably not advisable though, due to the potential for distraction.

It depends on what state you are in and where you are learning to drive.

When I was in drivers education at school the teacher and 2 other students were in the car because we switched off and took turns driving. For your state it might be different.

Once you get your permit for the first 6 months I think you are supposed to have an adult over 21 in the vehicle and no more than one passenger related to you. But as I said it may be different for your state.

Good Luck!

in the uk, it all depends on whether the person watching you lets you. Its not against the law.

I don't know where you live, but many states have rules governing the # of passengers allowed in a car while you are learning to drive (maybe only your teacher). They will also limit the number of passengers you can have in your car while you have a provisional license (if you live in a state that issues jr. or provisional licenses).

We have both "yanks" and "Brits" answering this question and the laws differ in both countries...Perhaps the person asking this type of question should let us know where they live!

The driving instuctor will let a pupil drive to his next pupil and then let the new pupiil drve the old pupil home while he is next to the driver so on this I would say yes it is ok

Yes.
(don't forget to have a qualified driver alongside you)

Yes as long as your with someone with a full driving licence & not under the influence of alcohol, drugs or band from driving.

Be safe

can only answer for uk law and it is not illegal, but not a good idea, if it is your friends, they will just be a distraction.

Lacey G
Sure you can - but they ride along at their own risk!

I personally didn't let my teenagers have people in the back seat when learning because it was a distraction.

Legally yes but only usually when you are with a driving instructor and dropping off the previous trainee, but if you were with a relation that was teaching you then the distractions may be a hindrance more than would be deemed acceptable.
Remember you are learning to drive a car that in the wrong hands becomes nothing more than a killing machine,it should never be taken lightly.

?
Yes....I learnt to drive in the air force, on a two week course (7 hours driving per day). Another learner was in the back and we kept having to swap over. It was all legit due to the fact that the instructor was next to us. To be honest though I don't even think you need to have an instructor......just as long as you have a provisional, another front seat passenger has a full license, and the car has L plates.
