i`m buying my friends car in a month!
firstly,can i get an insurance policy on his car before i have purchased it?
and secondly, can he put me on his insurance for a month so i can test drive it?

you do not need to be on the insurance at all to test drive it. if he already has insurance you'll be okay. you can get on the insurance before you purchase it but its not a good idea... |

You're covered by his insurance when you test drive the car as long as you have his permission. You can get the insurance beforehand--in fact, it would be a good idea--as long as you have the VIN available. Just make the effective date the day you pick up the car to take it home. |

You will need to get cover as a named driver for the month he still is the legal owner!!If you already have an insurance policy running on another car you may have the driving other cars extention that gives you third party only cover!!Do not make the mistake of driving without checking first!!In majority of cases you must be the legal owner of the car to insure it...as you cant insure what does not belong to you!! |

No, you can't insure a car that you haven't bought yet. If you test drive with his permission, you're covered under his insurance, and no test drive lasts a month. |
